So, I should know this answer but I don't. I even went to makeup school to be a makeup artist when I was 18 (but obviously that didn't work out). I've been wearing makeup for a very long time, lol! But, just lately, I haven't been able to find a good eye liner. I can't get it to stay put. I try to even use waterproof eyeliner, but with in a couple hours I have a black rainbow on my eye lid. How do I get it to say put and not smear? Also after I put it on, I use my eye shadow brush and put some loose powder over it to try to help it stay put, but it just doesn't work anymore. So, what are the best eye liners that stay put in your opinion?

What can I do next?

Try this one.
It's like a sharpie marker. Very fun. It won't smudge yet comes off easily with eyemake up remover. They are having a 2 for the price of one special.

I am a make-up artist too! Most eyeliners do this after a while, and I've used every brand from dept store to grocery store... one reason why I smudge it a bit for a softer line, or use a really good liquid liner.

There are eye priming products you can purchase (Urban Decay has one), that is supposed to help with longevity. Some people have more oily skin in the eye area (such as myself) that makes eyeliners run on some more than others.

I also put a bot of loose powder on my lids before I put on my eyeliner. And after I use liner, I take a bit of matching color eyeshadow and lightly go over the line to help set it. I always avoid the waterline unless I am going for a smokey eye look.

There are lots of brand reviews and tutorials online and on youtube for what other people do.

Do you start with an eye primer? That might help your eye makeup stay in place. And do you use liquid liner or a pencil? I use a very dark eye shadow as my liner, applied with a very fine angled brush and I work the pigment *right* onto my lash line, kinda smudge it at the base of my lashes. I never look like I'm actually wearing liner (there's no "line"), but somehow my lashes look full and my eyes stand out. When I tried using liquid liner, that stuff would slide all over the place after a while, kinda like you're describing, so I found that for me, either a pencil or powder works best. But for starters, I'd look into using an eye primer...most make-up lines carry them. I've used the Benefit one and it's pretty good.

I remember in my teens years having to heat the red pencil to get it to stay on...glad I don't have to do that anymore.

Avon has a few pencils that I like, but aren't dark enough for my tastes. They do have a liner in a container that uses a brush to apply. I haven't tried it yet, but it's on my shelf.

I use Maybelline Ultra Liner Waterproof liquid because of the smear factor with the pencils.

You have to set it with powder ALWAYS. A better softer look too is to line the top lid on the waterline and smudge a simmilar color on the lash line. It is softer and does not smudge. You should also use Too Faced Shadow Insurance before putting on any eye make up.

I like Tarte smolder eyes, amazonian clay waterproof liner.
I like that when you first put it you can work on it, I mean that when I want a more natural look, I put a dot in the corner of my eye and then with the sponge (that is on the other side) I smudge to the other corner of my eye, but once it settles it stays.
In fact last night I forgot to take it off and I still have it.
My only complain is that is a big crayon like pencil, and when you need to use the pencil sharpener, some get waist, more then the other eye pencils that you don't need to sharp.

Eyelid primer is your answer. It works with any eyeliner as well as any shadow. I have the Bare Minerals brand and it works beautifully:)

I use liquid liner from Almay (the bronze-y color specificially for blue eyes) & not the waterproof kind because I find that's much too difficult to get off. You can smudge it all you want while it's still wet, but once it dries, it stays put completely. No powder needed as a base, or to set it.

The only thing that works for me is liquid liner. Once it dries it's there until I wash it.

The pencils always end up smudging under my eyes.

Eyelid primer helps a bit, but i find it's tough to get it to make much of a difference for liner because it can't get it close enough to the lash line without getting it in my eyes.

I think this is one of those things that depends on the person. Good luck.

Physician's Formula is the only 1 I can get to stay on and not make my eyes swell up but then again I'm allergic to everything - LOL!

Have you tried any of the new gel or cream formulas? They come in little pots and you have to use a brush to apply them.

I've been using three different liners for a year now - a shimmery charcoal gel liner from Smashbox (over $20), a matte gel off-black liner from Sonia Kashuk (Target - less than $10), and a flat navy cream liner from ELF (Target - less than $5 [seriously]). My favorite is the Kashuk because it manipulates the best and it seems to wear slightly better than the other two.

I bought the Kashuk liner first and was so impressed that I bought the other two. All three are very smudge-able when applied, but they all dry into a long-wearing formula. The gels and creams do take a steady hand to apply, but they're fairly quick to master. They smudge better than pencil, they don't smear like liquid, and mistakes are easier to correct than with either.

If you're interested in trying those without a huge commitment, I'd recommend playing with an ELF cream liners. It's dirt cheap and wears every bit as good as the higher-end stuff.

Put a base on your eye (I use my regular concealer).

I also use shadow and a brush to line my eyes, instead of a liner like a pencil or liquid. Much more natural looking and I like to control I have with a brush.

Stila makes terrific shadows that you can wet and get the consistency of a liner.
