Eye Color - Hoffman Estates,IL
Speaking of a question that was just posted regarding eye color..I thought I'd ask my own....My first two kids turned out with blue eyes....my third it is hard to tell because when you look at him they look brown and then at another angle they look dark grey.....He is 13 months now...Will they stay this way or turn completely brown? I don't care but I am curious since the rim around his eyes have the blue and near the Iris to the rim they look brown...What color would you consider that? The doc said hazel but he does not have any green flecks or coloring i his eyes. Sorry this may be a stupid question....Thanks

I was always told that babies eye color is determined by 12 months. However, I have known babies whose eye color continued to change well past that. So, I guess you won't know till adulthood!

This may not help or answer your question, but I thought I would throw it in there any way! My daughter was born with the brightest blue eyes you ever saw! They stayed blue until she was 5 1/2. For her fifth birthday I bought her a shirt that says "everyone loves a blue eyed girl" they changed that year. They are very green now. I blame the shirt, LOL!
But the doctor told me when she was 2 that by this age her eye color was probably permanent. Boy was he wrong!

I don't remember when my daughter's eye color became set. She was born with very dark blue eyes, and so a nurse told us they would likely be brown. They are a beautiful dark brown now.
Hazel seems to be used to describe almost any color mixed with brown. My eyes are called "hazel" and are brown with quite a bit of green in them. My daughter's fathers are a very light blue/green, so we were surprised at our daughter's dark brown. She is only one of two in my entire extended family to have pure brown eyes! Genetics are fascinating...

I don't know how much this will help... but my oldest DD (now 7) had brilliant blue eyes up until she was 3 1/2 when they became a very light hazel... my second DD (now 4) has always had ice blue eyes... and my DS (now 3) has brown eyes with a ring of dark grey on the outer edges (was born like that)... sssoooooo your guess is as good as mine! LOL

My sons eyes sound a lot like what you are describing and they turned out to be hazel/green. If he is wearing green or if he is crying they turn the prettiest green I've ever seen. I love his eyes. My daughter was born with the big ol blues and they continually seem to get bluer (sp) as she gets older. I've got the boring ol browns if I didn't give birth to them I'd have to question their genetics :)

We asked our eye doctor and he said that most babies have their permanent color by 12 months, but many will continue to change until they turn 2!
My son (like most babies) was born with dark blue eyes and very dark hair. Around age 1 his eyes started to turn green and his hair was red... now he'll be 3 and he has platinum blonde hair and dark hazel eyes (not really green or brown, but if you ask him he'll tell you brown).

I heard they can change slightly up until age 5 or 6.

I have green eyes and my DH has blue. My DD was born with brown eyes (DH side of the family) with a tiny bit of grn you could see in the light.
Now she is 12 and her eyes are mostly grn with a tiny bit of brown.
