Experience with Nuvaring Birth Controll

Hi Ladies-
Just wondering if any of you have used the Nuvaring birth control and what your experiences were with it. I had my second son, 7 weeks ago and I am considering going on it. I have a prescription already, just not sure if I want to start it.

Hi S.,

I have been using Nuvaring for a couple years now, and I love it. It was the only thing that worked for me with no spotting in between -- sometimes, it's a little difficult to remember when to take it out and when to get a refill (it's easier to just remember to take a pill every night all the time), but I write it on my calendar ("ring") to help me remember. It's really easy, and has worked really well for me.

I have been using the Nuvaring for the past 6 years. I was suffering migraines and it has help ease them. I like it because I don't have to worry about taking something every day. I have had a few times were I forgot to take it out at the end of 3 weeks so I know have it marked on my calendar.

I loved the NuvaRing!! I would be using it now except I am 35 and an occasional smoker and the Dr won't prescribe it for me until I quit smoking completely -- because of my age I am a stroke hazard. Anyway, I was on the nuvaring for years and was very leary of it at first, but my Dr inserted it the first time for me and then I was scared to death about removing it, but it turned out to be easy. You will enjoy the convenience of it -- only inserted and removing, it's like a Ron Popeil infomercial, 'set it and forget it!' Go fill the prescription and enjoy safe, easy birth control!

just write it in your calendar. i leave mine in all 30 days and don't have a period-at all. it's so great. i'm not worried at all and the doctor says that it's totally fine. i don't get women who still want a period when you can avoid it. i highly recommend it. sometimes you just have to shove it back in it's place though...no big deal.

LOVE it--only 5% of the typical full pill and you only need to replace once a month.
However, you can't use it if you are nursing, you can only use progesterone.

While the convenience of it was great, it lowered my libido greatly (and I was in my mid-20s) my best friend went on it after her twins and had the same experience. After all I have read about birth control now, for me personally, not worth it for all the side effects. The IUD is comparable, to the ring and you keep it in for 5 years, with the option to take it out if you want more kids before 5 years.

Good Luck,

It's supposed to be low dose (since it's internal). I have used it, and I really, really liked it. I did well with the pill as well (I just hated having to take it everyday at the same time). So . . . maybe I'm just lucky?

I just figure: the lower the dose of hormone, the better, and if I don't have to remember to do it but once a month, that's an added plus.

I've heard of people being grossed out by it (which is kind-of weird), but it's really quite convenient. Some people even claim they can feel it (which makes me think they must not have it in far enough—it still works like that, though).

Everyone responds differently to medications, though. That is true.

I used the Nuvaring for about a year. I loved the ease of use, so much easier than remembering a pill everyday and it lightened up my period. But ultimately I had to stop using it as I was getting bad headaches and it was greatly reducing my libido. (I am mid-20's) I say give it a try, if you get the headaches or libido loss you can always stop using it right away, you really have nothing to lose. I am now considering an IUD when I am sure I am done having kids.
