Experience with Gilkey Windows
I have met with several window companies and am seriously considering Gilkey. I thought they have one of the best windows at one of the best prices (I had a referral salesman so that helps being a self generated lead). My friend who referred is happy with them but she just got hers so it is still early.
Before I sign, I want to know if anyone had experience with them good or bad.
Thanks!

We had Gilkey windows installed in our condo, which was on the busy street, so we were hoping to block the noise. However, it didn't happen, as well as the windows still had small draft. We had a installer to come for a second time, and he just said that it is as good as it will get. Therefore, I don't think their windows worth the price, we were dissapointed.

I just had my Gilkey windows put in a few weeks ago. So far they are great. However, it did take a lot longer than 8 weeks for my windows to arrive (I had one very large picture window which I was told was the hang-up). It took closer to 14 weeks.
Is your salesman Bill Boesch? He was very nice. Just make sure if you are ordering grids that you draw them on the contract. There is no place on the contract to confirm the grid pattern. We wanted Prarie but they came with Colonial. They are taking care of it and have ordered replacements. But, I wish they'd arrived just as we'd ordered.
I was referred to Gilkey from a neighbor. One of her windows developed some crystalizing between the panes in the winter indicating a seal was damaged. Gilkey replaced the window right away, she said it was a painless customer service call.

I've had Gilkey windows for about a year now. I don't have anything bad to say about them. The sales rep was more than accomodating, and the install went as well as it could have. They were very professional and cleaned everything up before they left. About 6 months after they were put in, one of the windows was building up moisture in between the panes. I put a call into my sales rep who had their service dept. call me w/in 48 hours. I explained the problem and they put an order in for a new window. They didn't send anyone out to check my complaint, which was great given the turn around time to get a new window. It takes just as long to get a replacement as it does when you first place your original order. I was told the average time was 6-8 weeks and mine were installed right around the 7 week time. I have had no problems with Gilkey. They too were recommended to me by a friend who used them and she has had no problem either. Good luck.

I wan not impressed with our Gilkey salesperson. I used a different company. The Gilkey person seemed too "slick" for me as a salesperson. I had also talked to our village about a permit, and replacement windows (no size changes) do not require a permit in my village. When I called him on the fact he was charging me $75 for a permit he didn't need, he insisted he was right and they would charge the $75 no matter what. That made me question what other charges were on his quote. I went with Sunshine Windows out of Schaumburg - their number is ###-###-####. My old boss taught me to always get at least 3 quotes.

Hi M.. We had Universal Window and The Window Guys come out to our house to quote us window prices. We went with Universal. I would suggest looking into the warranty on the windows you will purchase as well as their BBB rating. I know that both of the company's we spoke with have lifetime warranty on parts and labor - meaning they will replace anything for free w/out charging us a service or labor fee. Even if my son breaks the window with a toy, they will come out and replace for free. Something to consider...

M., my husband has a window and door replacement business. He would not recommend these windows for energy efficiency or durability. Simple put, they are not good. If you would like another opinion, please feel free to visit his website (www.finocreative.com). He has experience replacing windows all over Chicago (North Shore, Downtown, Western Burbs etc...) Gilkey windows are not custom fit for your house. There are many other better choices for vinyl windows. You can reach him directly at ###-###-####.
