Exersaucer Advice

My son is 15weeks. He is very strong and has good head control. We put him in the exersaucer and put a towel behind him to stabilize him better. I am told as long as he has good head control this is safe. What are other people's experience with this?

I did the same thing when my son was 4 months old, and he is a very strong 9 months now! I would put a blanket behind him to help him sit up better and he had a ball! The added bonus was I was able to move around a bit myself and get a few things done while he played.

We did the same with both of our daughters, and they loved every minute in their exersaucer! After all, this is a whole new amazing view on the world for them with all they can see being upright. Please remember to have lots of tummy time though so he will want to get down and try to crawl later on. Our oldest daughter wanted to play everywhere but on her tummy, so she was late to crawl and walk - not that it really matters in the long run, but... She dances around the house in her princess gear now :)

I did the same thing with both of my kids. They are now 4 and 19 months and both very strong (and still alive!) You just get to where you need more variety of where you put a kid that can't do anything!! My kids were really happy for the change of scenery. i rotated them from bouncy seat, to floor, to exersaucer, to high chair, just to be able to get a few things done! (I also put them in the Johnny Jump Up pretty early too!

Hi R.,

I used an exersaucer too.

My father is a physical education professor. He told me I shouldn't have used it because the back is not ready for it.

I found a book that is very eye opening about posture. Here is a link to the website: http://www.egwellness.com/

Good luck,

We started putting our son in an exersaucer around 4 months old, because he was exhibiting a desire to do something with his legs. When we held him, standing on our lap or a table, he'd jump and jump and jump, which was surprisingly exhausting for us, and thats how we knew he was ready for the exersaucer. I think readiness is more to do with leg strength than the ability to hold up his head, but if your son likes it, go for it.
