We were at my IL's this past weekend and my hubby put sunscreen on our 3.5 yo son and they went in the pool while me and my dtr were napping. Later that day we noticed he was blinking quite a bit more then normal and like longer blinks (where it was a slighly longer pause if you know what I mean). We thought he was either tired or maybe irritated from the sun/water/sunscreen. Now a week later he is still doing it at times. We notice it more when he is talking (maybe just b/c we are looking at him at that time) and at other random times like when he is eating. What could this be? He says his eyes dont hurt. I don't want him to start getting a habit if there is nothing actually wrong!
My son did this, as well. We took him to our regular pediatrician and then the eye doctor. The eye doctor took one look at his eyes and knew it was allergies. But, while we were there, we did an eye exam to make sure everything else was good, as well.

my son and his daughter also blinks like that. The eye doctor said it could be the stigmitism or even dry eyes.
My friends 3.5 year old does this. It's a little bit of a tick he has (not saying its the same thing)... He mostly does it when he's getting tired or over tired... What he has is hereditary though, his dad has a slight tick with his eyes constantly blinking (not all the time, he goes in and out of phases).. It doesn't happen all the time.. Hopefully he will just grown out of it.
If he says his eyes don't itch, burn or hurt I wouldn't be overly concerned but maybe see a dr to have him checked out. This blinking could've been there all the time and perfectly normal for him. Everyone has their own body rythm but I would have him checked out just in cause.
A little girl at my daycare did this for about a week or so. I think it is just a phase. Kind of like stuttering, don't make an issue out of it and see if it goes away on its own. If you ignore it and it continues then get it checked out. The little girl at my daycare stopped on her own. Not sure what it was, but for a few days it was really bad and then it just stopped. I'm sure it's nothing but if you bring it to his attention it may make him self conscious and make it worse. Good luck
You might want to check his eye site........point to things and see if he sees them and such.............it could just be the heat, or it could be that he's just not seeing very well........Just to be safe, you might want to get it checked.........it's probably nothing, but better safe than sorry.....

My dd is 9. She just started this type of thing. Not sure if your son is doing the same thing or not. She looks at a bright light, the sun, or out the window. Then closes her eyes quick and gets that bright vision of what she was looking at, even though her eyes are closed. Does that make sense? She does that over and over a few times, then it becomes kind of like strobe lights. Try it. Look out the window or at a bright light. Close your eyes and see that brightness. Then open and close your eyes a few times, slowly. I have no idea why she started this, but she says she likes it. She is older than your son, so I don't know how much control your son may have over the blinking. We are telling our daughter not to do it. When she does it when you are talking to her, it makes her seem disinterested and disrespectful, even though she is not and IS still listening. She is going to the doc soon for a check up, so I am going to mention this to the doc. Again, I have no idea if your son is doing the same thing or not, just sharing what we are going through right now.
