I have been trying to lose weight since having two babies in two years. I have been hearing about Evercleanse on the radio and infomercials. It is supposed to promote weight loss and clean your colon. Have any of you moms tried or know someone who tried Evercleanse?

What can I do next?

If you want to try to start a diet with a cleansing...I recommend the Body and Soul Challenge: http://www.wholeliving.com/body-and-soul-challenge-week1

The plan was developed by doctors. I did it in January and it was an amazing experience. It changed my life. I have been eating better and feeling so great since doing it.

Unfortunately, there are no easy routes to weight loss. The most recent science on this topic shows that total calorie intake is the primary determinant of weight. It is actually a better determinant than physical activity. However, physical activity is important for other health reasons. Some of the dietary supplements advertised are actually plain dangerous and are particularly dangerous for anyone with high blood pressure. I wouldn't waste my money on any of the advertised products. Good Luck.

Please don't be sucked in by such ideas. The way to lose weight and keep it off is a lifestyle change. Eating healthy, nutritious foods, watching calorie intake and getting regular exercise. It's actually, very, very simple. Take in less calories than you burn off. Your colon doesn't need to be cleansed. It's set up to have the right balance of healthy bacteria it needs to do it's job.

I suggest you up your intake of fiber in your diet and see the results. I challenge you to try it for one month and see the results. Fiber foods are not only nutritious, they fill you up to satisfaction with far fewer calories and with nutritional benefits the gimmicky products cannot provide. Garbanzos are my personal favorite because they can be added to almost any meal in ways that do not take away from the pleasure and taste of the foods. For example, you can add a quarter cup to a salad, or to your serving of a casserole or stir fry. I would much rather a person lose weight in a natural, healthful way than some "quick fix" that will neither add nutrition nor last over a lifetime. Changes in eating habits can and will last a lifetime.

L.,

There is absolutely no medical benefit to colon cleansing. The best way to get a "clean colon" is to eat a high fiber diet with lots of water. However you need to add fiber in your diet gradually or you may have some GI discomfort. Diet and exercise is the best proven way to lose wt.

I didn't do that brand, but I did do Internal Flush. Basically the same idea. It does make you drop about 5 lbs in a few days. And I feel less fat in the stomach. But the weight does come right back on if you go back to eating like you used to. Your bowel movements will be liquidy, but not uncontrollable. I usually do it on a Friday and Saturday night to start so that I can be nearer to the potty if needed. But I only do it like once every 5 mos or so. I do eat a high fiber diet as a general rule (love Fiber One items!) but just feel like sometimes I need a little jump to losing weight, like that scale going down makes me feel like I CAN do it and I then get motivated.

2 weeks ago, on the DRS., they were talking about the colon cleanse products. They all agreed it's a money making scheme and not a healthy thing to do very ofen. They say you can empty yourself out once every 3 months if needed. The weight you lose is the water weight that the cleanser turns the solids into which then runs out of your body. It's up to you. Don't forget to do it on a day when your husband is home so someone can be with your children while you're on the pot all day.

Hi L.,
Cleanses are dangerous if you don't know exactly wht you're doing. As far as diets go: if you go on one, you're going to go off of it at whcih point you will gain the weight back! You need to focus on a lifestyle change, implementing whole foods that are low glycemic(don't spike yor blood sugar), exercise and supplemtation of the antioxidants and minerals that you can't get from your diet alone. I welcome you to try my products which are pharmaceutical grade (they are manufactured by USANA for USANA, healthy, and low glycemic. The 5 day program includes meal replacement shakes (high in protein and fiber), protein bars and supplements for the 5 day Reset program which is intended to "reset" your blood glucose -so you don't crave sugars and carbs, NOT CLEAN YOU OUT!! By reducing or eliminating sugars and carbs, you not only are on your way to burning fat naturally but are preventing diabetes. Check out my website for more info - ____@____.com or call me info ###-###-####
P.s. I'm partnering w/Anytime Fitness in Streamwood and holding a meeting about Reset on Feb. 22 at 1:00. It is a 12 week partner based weight loss contest with some great prizes including club membership. All are invited. that website is www.meetup.com/West-Chicago-Weight-Loss-Challenge
Good luck

I agree with these first responses. I had recently asked my DR about Evercleanse, and she said absolutely not. Cleanse your colon naturally, and not with artificial ingredients that will have your insides thrown out of whack. There are no magic pills or potions, and I know it is not easy. Good Luck!

Hi L.,
I'm a director of a complete gentle Natural Detox program in Warrenville. It's a 6 week program that allows you to actually have a life while cleaning out the body. There are many types of "cleanses" out there, but what people don't realize is that you really need to be evaluated by a Doctor to know exactly what your body requires. You could harm yourself if you are not addressing every aspect of your body while detoxing. "Toxins" get released into the bloodstream & if they can't exit the body properly, they get reabsorbed & stored. I will evaluate you to help determine the proper course for you. Plus your overall health will be evaluated & certain tests may need to be run to determine how heavy of a detox does your body need. Since you just had a baby not too long ago, your hormones are in a state of flux & will require a different detox than someone who had a baby 2 years ago. Plus, if you're still nursing, Detox of any kind is contraindicated!!! You can't detox because you'll be sending toxins through the breastmilk to your baby & hurting her. What I can do is help you with your nutrition to make sure you are eating the healthiest foods that will benefit you and your baby. I'm in the office Mon-Thurs at ###-###-####.
