ERGO...what Do You Think?

Hey Moms,
I trust your advice more than any others.
I've heard good things about the ERGO baby carrier. I'm considering getting one. Is it worth the price? (That's a considerable cost for our family)
My 23 lb. 1 yr old grew out of his Bjorn carrier long ago and we have a metal frame backpack carrier, but I can't help but wonder about the Ergo.
Also, I'm 4 months pregnant and am not sure if I could even use it when I get a little rounder.
Is it just another "thing" I can live without or is it a mommy must have?
Thanks for your advice!

AMAZING! CHANGED MY LIFE WHEN WE GOT IT! Excuse my caps but seriously it is by far the greatest carrier I've owned and I've had quite a few. I wore my daughter through my first trimester and then got a little uncomfortable with it but we wore her til about 2 1/2 when she was well over 30 lbs. I wear my son almost every day on my back. It's so convenient and comfortable for both of you.

I love my Ergo!! I liked it better than my Bjorn (which I don't have anymore) because the baby sits in it, they don't dangle like they do with the Bjorn and many others. It's very comfortable. My son is also almost 13 months old (and also 23#) and we still use it often. However, I am in my 9th week of pregnancy, and already I'm sensing that I probably won't be wearing it much longer because of pressure on the abdomen; I don't think I could last into the 4th month with it.

Congrats on #2!

I really like mine. My 3rd son is now 8 months old and I still use it with him. It has the most back support I've used in carriers.

I love my ergo - you will use it for #2 AND for #1. I had to stop using it when I was about 28 weeks along with #2, but my sister managed to use hers until she was darn near full term, so I think it just depends on what's comfortable for you. (you have to use a back carry when you're more preg, and just keep the hip belt pushed below your belly).

I suggest seeing if you can pick one up used (check the swap boards at www.thebabywearer.com for example). The other thing is that ergos are not good for newborns - your baby needs to be about 6 months old before you can use it. They do have an infant insert, but for newborns I really prefer something like a Kangaroo Korner Adj. Fleece pouch. This is actually a great carrier until your baby gets huge (like 20+ lbs) - then it starts to take its toll on your shoulder.

I have a Beco baby carrier that is just like the ERGO. I love it more than any baby gear I ever owned. Really don't know how I had 4 babies without one!!! I would say they're totally worth the money!

I like it. My sister couldn't live without hers. And our sitter loves it, especially when she has more than one baby with her.
I took mine back and got the ergo sport. Just as good, but much more light weight.

I love mine, too. Actually, I've barely used it on the front, as it hurt my back and made me feel too front-heavy. I figured out how to get my daughter on my back by myself, and that's what we do now. I don't use it a lot, but if we're going downtown on the train or somewhere where I can't park a stroller, we still use it and it doesn't hurt at all (she's 35lbs now!). You might be able to wear it with a bump if you put it on the back and tuck the hip strap underneath.

I wouldn't want to be carrying a 23 lb toddler while pregnant. How bout a stroller?
