Ergo Baby Carrier

I am looking to purchase an Ergo. Anyone own one? Just looking for pro/cons on it.

What can I do next?

I didn't like the ergo at all. I found it uncomfortable and didn't like that there is only one position for baby. I'm a big fan of ring slings (you can view mine here: nestbabysling.com) or mai tai style carries. Both of these are much more versatile, super comfortable and stylish to boot.

There is a store called Tink Tinks in Evanston, on Davis across from the post office. They sell Ergos there and they will let you try the store model on (with your baby). We just got one. I don't know how my baby will like it yet but I can say that it is SO much more comfortable than our Bjorn (which we use all the time.)

Hi K.,
I bought one this time around for my infant son. I had a cheap carrier for my first son. The Ergo offers great support for the back and shoulders with it's wide padded straps. I have the infant insert too and it keeps my baby very cuddly inside.

I do not have one of these but I am also looking at purchasing one. I have a large 5 month old and use a zolowear ring sling now, but want to be able to wear my infant on my back when he turns 6 months. I have heard a lot of great reviews! I dont know if you live in the city but there is a store right by the paulina brown line stop called Be By Baby! The women who own the store are great and they can help you with the pros and cons. They sell a wide variety of different baby carriers.

I loved my Ergo. I could garden, shop, chase my older child...everything with my little guy on my back. We used it from 6 months - about 2 1/2 years. I can't say enough good things about it.

(We're not having anymore children, so if anyone out there is interested in purchasing a used Ergo in good condition I am happy to accept offers!)

My sister-in-law was just visiting with her Ergo carrier. She has a 7 month old and he was very content in it both awake and asleep. She said the video that comes witht he Ergo is very informative and that she really likes her carrier. You can even carry up to a 5 y.o. in it! I guess she has used it for her 4 y.o. before. While she was out, I tried it with my big 20 month old while he was sleeping. I found it to be very comfortable and easy to move around in. I hardly noticed his weight. I had used a baby bjorn when my children were younger but I like the wearing options available with the Ergo, how much more mobile I felt with it and that you can use it much longer.

I looked at the Ergo because as my daughter got around 15 pounds I HATED the Bjorn (it was great when she was tiny though).
I ended up going with a Beco baby carrier. It's very similar to the Ergo but comes in pretty fabrics.
The Ergo and Beco both get great reviews from hardcore "baby wearers" :)
DD is about 20 pounds now and I love it! It is soooo much more comfortable than the Bjorn and I can even wear her on my back so that I can do laudnry/dishes or even pull weeds.
I have not mastered the hip carry (only tried it once, I like her on my back), but it is supposed to be possible.
I cannot remember their website, but if you Google "Beco Baby Carrier" you'll find it.

I've heard these are great from other moms (I personally don't have one). Lots of good reviews on all sorts of baby-wearing products at www.thebabywearer.com I ended up with a Kangaroo Korner Fleece Pouch and a Storchenwiege wrap sling based on those reviews, and couldn't be happier. I've heard the ergos are great for slightly larger babies/young toddlers.
