Eosinophilic Esophagitis

My son is in the process of being diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitis. We don't have lab results back yet, but his allergist and gastroenterologist feel pretty sure that he will have it. At the moment, we know that he is allergic to milk and eggs. I love to hear from any of you who either know about eosinophilic esophagitis and/or how to cook for a kid with milk and egg allergies. Oh, and to complicate things, he has oral sensitives so feeding has always been an issue for us.

What can I do next?

My daughter has EE and is allergic to milk, egg, peanut, soy, corn, wheat, oat and beef.

On the bright side you will become a great cook. If his only allergies end up being milk and egg. all you have to do is cook normally and use rice or soy milk in place of cow milk and use the ener-g egg replacer. The diagnosis of ee just keeps flags up for more allergies otherwise they are treated the same as kids with food allergies with or without ee.

Just today I bought a homeopathic treatment at sprouts for my daughter for dairy allergy. It is basicaly desensitization for the allergy. Not recommended by conventional allergist, but I am not too conventional. I believe the body can heal itself given the right direction to do so.

best of luck to you.

I don't know much about this condition but my family has been living with allergies our whole lives. I would recommend the Dairy Free Cookbook and use an egg substitute for the egg allergy. I haven't found a recipe in there that I didn't like. Plus, in the front of the book it tells you the safe items that you can buy at the store and restraunts. The other thing I would recommend is the following websites. The second one allows you to click on the things that you are allergic to and gives you recipes without those items. Hope this helps.

J. - Good luck with dealing with your son's issues. I know how hard it is to have food allergies and eating issues. My daughter is severely allergic to nuts and eggs. There is nothing we can do about the nuts, ever, except avoid them. She will never grow out of this allergy, according to her allergist. The egg allergy however, is more difficult to avoid, but she may grow out of it one day. Look through MamaSource, because I posted for help with egg allergies and got a bunch of very helpful responses. There are lots of eggs substitutes and lots of ways to cook things without eggs. My #1 thing is a product called EGG REPLACER that I got at the Sprouts Market in Southlake. (It's on the shelf with the other allergy-free products. Look yourself, because the manager AND the stock-boy both said that they did not have it, when they did). Also, there is a line of mixes called CHERRYBROOK FARM. I got mine at Kroger's in the huge Allergy-Free section at the front of the store. (Cake mixes, pancake mixes, cookie mixes). Good luck and you'll be in my prayers!

They have tons of info about eosinophilic disorders and you can finds parents of other kids that have the same disease/disorder. They can help you figure things out.
You have to have a membership ($25), but I think it is well worth it. Actually, if you have a Eosionphilic kid, I think you get more than $25 of information and support.
Good luck. I know from hearing people there that it is nerve wracking, frustrating, but there is always a light at the end of the tunnel and lots of ways to manage it.
You also need to be the greatest advocate for your child.
Good luck.

I second the mention about Kids With Food Allergies. That site has been a godsend for us. My daughter has a dairy allergy, and getting practical ways to handle it has made our daily routine so much better. Our allergist is great, but he essentially handed us the list of 40+ dairy ingredients to avoid and wished us well. KWFA translates that into "Okay, you're gonna bake cupcakes ahead of all those parties, freeze them, and have them ready for when you're unsure there will be safe food." I know they have a very active EE forum.

I have a friend whose son has this but very severly (he can only have a special formula right now . . .no food). PM me if you'd like to speak with her, and I can give her your email addres. Maybe you two could talk. She has found some mom's groups with kids dealing with EE that have really helped her, and she could probably lead you in the right direction for it.

There is a store/restaurant in Plano on Park that only sells foods for allergies. Like gluten/wheat free, dairy free, egg free, and so on. She has a large selection of stuff safe for your family to eat:)

Try The Whole Foods Allergy Cookbook by Cybele Pascal. Lots of recipes and substitution ideas. I got mine on Amazon.com
