Enlarged Lymph Node/ Swollen Spleen

Hi Moms,

My almost 3 YO daughter has had an enlarged lymph node behind her ear, and a slightly enlarged node under her jaw. Her spleen is also swollen spleen. She has had these symptoms for about 2.5 weeks. She had an X-Ray and blood tests to check for leukemia and lymphoma. Both came back OK, THANK GOD... She had a rapid mono test, which came back negative. We are now waiting for a culture mono test. Other than the lymph node/spleen issue she is showing no other symptoms at all. No cold/flu things, no loss of appetite, or extra sleepiness. She seems like her normal happy self. The only reason we took her in is from seeing the lump behind her ear and not knowing what it was.

Have you had this happen to your little one before? Waiting on the mono culture result before more tests are done, just wondering what this could be!

Thanks!

What can I do next?

one of my girls had mono when she was 12, it caused swollen lymph nodes, and an enlarged spleen. I was told to keep her inactive, so as not to rupture the spleen. Hopefully its not mono, that can take a toll on the body, making her tired for months...

I don't know anything about enlarged spleens, but when my son had chicken pox, the lymph nodes behind his ears were HUGE!!! My guess is that all the swelling is just evidence that the body is fighting off something. They lack of symptoms just means it is doing a good job.

I don't know about the spleen, but that doesn't sound normal.

As to lymph nodes, they often swell when the body is resisting a virus. Mine and my daughter's nodes under our jawline like to swell if there is a virus going around that we have been exposed to. It will often be much bigger for awhile and sometimes just go away - our bodies successfully fought the virus and we didn't get sick. Other times, they stay big and we do get sick. Once we are well, the nodes seem to be smaller.

Hope all goes well for your little one. I'd be much more worried about the spleen.

To cure the spleen use Dock. Dock is a common plant. You can dig the root out of the earth anytime of year. I am not sure about Anchorage but over most of the world it does grow. You use it in cooking and in soup and as a tea. The spleen is an organ that heals slowly so it will take several months to heal.
You very likely have health food stores where they can get you dried Dock root and fresh leaves.

Mumps???? Also I have a permanent swollen lymph node under my arm and the only time it went away was when I had a terrible cold with cough. Then after I got better it came back. Doctors have never been concerned.

I have a couple lymph nodes that I can always feel and it's been that way for ~20 years (I'm in my 30's). They swell when I get a sick and then diminish when I'm well. One on my jawline feels like a split pea when well, a garbanzo bean when sick.

I've been checked out and everything is fine, it's just how my lymph nodes are. There's one on the back of my neck, a handful under my chin and some on my jawline. You can't see them but I can easily feel them. My dad is the same.
