Endometriosis
I have had endometriosis for at least 5 years. I had laproscopic surgery about 3 years ago. I am thinking about having another laproscopic surgery this summer. My Doctor doesn't really think I should have a hysterectomy because the endometriosis could be in other places than the uterus. Just wondering if any of you have endometriosis and what worked for you.

I have a history of endometriosis and I had surgery once to remove the growth and at that point my Dr told me that the only way to control it was:
1. be pregnant
2. be on birth control
3. have a hysterectomy
I have decided to get my tubes tied since my Dr wouldn't do a hysterectomy after my 3rd child, I have been on the depo provera shot for the last 3 years and have recently begun to have signs of this coming back so at this point I am seriously considering having a hysterectomy because I do not want to keep having a surgery to remove the excess growth. There are 2 kinds of hysterectomies that my Dr talked about:
1. complete-where they take everything
2. partial-they either take the ovaries or the uterus
The one that I would require is the complete since the growing could continue if anything was left inside.
In your case if you are not on birth control I would look into that to see if it would work for you, as far as I know there are not many people that do not have birth control work for them to control endometriosis.
Good luck

My mom recently had a hysterectomy due to endometriosis. She enjoys not having her cycle because when she did it was VERY painful!

Please don't do anything until you get a second opinion. I had an unneccessary surgery and REALLY regret it. Sooooo many women have been helped by

My sister had that and a lap(whatever) LOL and then she got pg with her first. After that she didn't have any problems. The choice is yours to make. I knew one woman who had so much pain that she'd be miserable. She had a hysterectomy. If you have all the kids you planned on having, that might save you a lot of pain.
I don't know, personally what you're going through so I guess I don't know how to answer your question. Sorry.

I have endometriosis for a very long time and I just had a hysterectomy almost a year ago! The best thing I have ever done!! There are a lot of options that I wanted to try before I went as far as getting a hysterectomy. None of them seemed to work. The only one that worked was being pregnant and nursing so I didn't have my cycle. But you can't be pregnant or nurse the rest your life so when I was very very sure that I did not want any more children I finally got it done. I have not looked back since except to count how many cycles I haven't had to agonize through. Good luck!

I developed endometriosis after my daughter was born. I was seeing a doctor and he kept changing my birth control pill, and telling me that I probably just had cysts on my ovaries. For over 2 years I saw this doctor and then I finally took the advice of my boss and talked to a fertility specialist. I had to have a laperoscopy and a hysteroscopy, and then I had to have another surgery to remove the growth. The endometrioma was in my abdominal wall and had been growing since I had my daughter in May 2002. I finally finished all of this up in September of 2006. My husband and I had been trying since my daughter was a year old to have another and now, finally I am 24 weeks.
The best advice I can possibly give is get a second opinion, and if you don't like what they had to say, then get a third. I had severe pain every month for 2-3 weeks and I was considering a hysterectomy! I am so glad I didn't have it done.
Good Luck!!
