Endometriosis?

I hate to get personal, but I guess we are all moms… I have had irregular periods for almost a year now, and I’m getting worried. I have finally found a great OBGYN in Plano that is running all the tests/sonos/medicine etc. She thought putting me on birth control for a few months would help regulate things, and then I could jump off it, and hopefully my body would regulate itself thereafter. She warned me the first month would probably consist of spotting, etc. It did – all but 12 days was I “spotting!” So… month two – still spotting… it’s almost to month three and I’m getting worried. I have never experienced anything like this before… she thought it might be endo, so we did the sono and nothing showed up. I’ve had all the hormone labs/thyroid/etc. She thought birth control first, then we’d probably have to do the laparoscopy – which I’m terrified, but hey! At this point, I’m surprised I’m still alive bleeding this much!!! I want to have another baby (or two) but we weren’t rushing into it… maybe another year or so, then we’ll start trying. Anyway, the cramping is awful now… seems to just get worse with every “cycle”. What do I do???? Are these signs of Endometriosis?? Is it something else??? HELP!!! I’m so worried something is wrong with me… If anyone has any advice, words of wisdom, anything… it would be greatly appreciated!!! Sorry to ramble on about my situation! But thanks for listening

Hi E.,

I was diagnosed with Endometriosis when I was 18 by a laparoscopy. I've had 3 since that time. Laparoscopy is really the only way to truly find out if you have the disease or not. The procedure itself is not bad. The gas is the worst part and can settle in your shoulders making it pretty uncomfortable. I've tried drug therapy in the past (Lupron) and now am on an IUD. BC pills never really helped with the pain for me.
Check out the endometriosis website...it may help answer some questions you have and give you good ideas on what course of action to take. Good luck!! http://www.endometriosis.org/

Hi E.! I had pain in my right ovary area about 3 years ago. They did the sono with no signs. Kept having the pain. So my OBGYN did the Laproscopy. I ended up having so much scar tissue from my two C-sections. To this day I havn't had any pain. I have a little bit of Endometriosis but not anything to worry about. I would go in and have the laproscopy done. Don't go by the sono. Good luck! :)

HI E.,
I know what you mean by being scared what is going on. I had some similiar problems and it sounds hormonal. It can be endometriosos. I would do the Laposcropy first because thats the only real way to find it. I have had a couple and they aren't bad at all. If they find it they can scrape it off. And you WILL feel beter. I do go to an Accupuncturist for hormonal inbalances and I love her. She is very knowledgable about it. She has helped many friends and siblings too. Try not to worry. This is VERY common in women. I am 48 years old and been through a lot of the hormonal stuff (fertility treatments etc....) Just be proactive!!!
Hope that helps a little.

I agree, you are better off having the laparscopy done to be 100% sure that it is endo. Once you find out for sure then you will be able to make the right decision about what treatment path you want to take.

Good luck and just be positive...
