We are getting a free estimate from Empire Carpets tomorrow. I was wondering have anybody ever used them before?
Is installation included in their pricing? did u finance? did u have a down payment?

I can't think of all the question to ask u, but if u have any info to offer about this company or any other company that u think is better let me know. Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

We called them to get a quote for 2 rooms and were told that both me and my husband would need to be present when the guy came to the house. That was a red flag for me- it's just an estimate- why can't my husband take care of it by himself? I travel for my job and trust my husband to take care of stuff like that. The person on the phone was just too pushy and it didn't feel right, so we cancelled the appointment. You might find an independent conractor who will do the job well and at a fair price. I have a name if you are interested.

I haven't read the other answers yet, but here is my experience. We kept seeing their ads on T.V. and were looking for flooring for two bedrooms. They came out and gave us a quote that was 3 times higher than the other 2 and that was with "free installation". I was actually really bugged. I understand that prices may vary a bit, but it was a total rip-off. We went with one of the other quotes and love the job they did.

We just got carpet last week for one room and stairs through Empire. The first price they gave us was extremely high. We had already priced out a couple other places. It was like double the price. We told him what we had quoted. Then, he pulled the typical sales act and had to call their boss to see if they could get a lower price. He ended up coming within $100 of our other price and since they could do it next day and we were in a time crunch, we went with them. They have everything in stock, where the other companies we looked at would take 2 weeks to come in. We could also get financing from Empire, no down payment. The installers that came were really great. They did a good job. We also had stairs that had to have an extra stringer carpeted that was not written up in the contract. Even though they weren't prepared for it, when my husband pointed it out, they did it for us with no problem. The sales person did tell us to make sure we told him if the installers were bad at all because they would not allow them to work for Empire if they were, but of course, that could be sales talk to. All in all, I think the carpet looks good. If anything, I would try to have a good idea of prices to negotiate. They definitely need to be negotiated with. Good luck!

We used them with mixed results. We used a line of credit, and someone in their office took our account # and used it to pay their bills. The only way we found out was the cable co. called to make sure it was OK to use our account to pay the bill, and I said, "What?" That being said, we got LR,DR,stairs and hall done, installation included, for a fair price, and all done in a day and a half. The salesman told us it wouldn't run(pull up and unravel), which our rottweiler did in less than a week. When we called, they replaced it with a more expensive carpet, all at no extra charge. Like I said, good and bad results, but the carpet still looks good 5 years later.

I don't know how they are now, but a long time ago my husband's friend ordered carpet from them. They financed with them with no problem, and paid it early so it was fine. However, they brought the carpet in in pieces rather than fitting to the room. Instead of 26 x 20, they brought in 5x13, 15x13, etc. The carpet looked awful. His brother was there for the installation and let it be completed. He had to call and have them fix it and that was a royal pain. So just as a warning regardless of the company, you have the right to refuse the carpet if it is not completely as expected. Carpet brought in pieces may not match correctly at the seams.

I called them for quotes on hardwood floor. The quote alone nearly gave me a heart attack. ($10,500.00) for 4 bedrooms, livingroom and one hallway. I was also told because my floors may not be level they may be charging me more for the installation but wouldn't know until the began the job.

That experience left a sour taste in my mouth for their business practices. I had already priced the materials for the entire job which would have been around $3,000.00 so you figure the extra $7,500 was for one day of labor. I don't think so. Maybe you will have better luck with the carpet.

I found their estimate to be much higher (+$100) than the company I used and I was very pleased with the company. I found Empire to be pushy and expensive.
