Emergency Room or Hospital Suggestions

My husband and I took our two month old twin boys to Texas Children's ER last night at 7:30pm and left at 2:00 in the morning. Some douche bag male nurse told me we were lucky to even be seen in less within 6 hours. We went in because our babies' acid reflux had become unbearable for them and they had not stop their excruciating cries for pain for over four hours. This guy said that if we had a real emergency, it would have been faster. I thought it unprofessional that after hours of waiting to see a doctor he trivialized the problems we had. Although the some of the staff were helpful to us, I found that this hospital was inefficient, filthy, and lacked the organization to handle the amount of patients they recieved. Unfortunaltely I think they are the only children's hospital around and the the nurse informed me that even if I went to another hospital they would just send me here. I hope the this experience isn't typical and that we just encountered an awful night to go there and a jerk of a nurse to deal with us. If anyone has had a better experience at a hospital ER please let me know. I wouldn't mind driving out of the way for a more competent hospital to handle our needs.

What can I do next?

I highly recommend St. John's hospital in Nassau Bay (Clear Lake area). This is probably out of your way but they are a small hospital that can handle most emergencies.

Dear A. in Houston. I dont know what part of Houston you are from. But I also have 2 little ones and I have gone to Southeast Memorial Hospital. The wait is way less. I think about 45 min or so. For the next time you might want to try there. You will be in and out and back at home in no time.

My husband and I had a similiar experience at ST. Luke's, then we moved to the suburbs and found that Methodist Hospital in Sugar Land is really good about getting you in quickly. And the nurse was right...that was quick...my niece was at TCH from 10 am to 8 pm one Sunday when she fainted in church.

I have never taken my children to Texas Children's but then again my boys have never been that sick. I have always taken them to Memorial City Memorial Hermann Hospital and have always been treated with respect. I do know that if the child is too sick they will send you directly to Texas Children's but I don't think that reflux would be that kind of Emergency. When I had to take my son in with RSV ,MCMHH was very helpful. I think Memorial Hermann has plenty of hospitals all around the Houston area. Sorry to hear about your boys...I hope they are feeling better.

My children were born in and I was treated in Memorial City Hospital and got excellent care. I dont know how far of a drive it is for you but may be well worth it. I hope the nurse you got was just a jerk and not a direct reflection, but you never know.
