Egg Allergy and Vomiting??

My son just turned a year old. Today, I gave him his first egg. It was a half of a hard boiled egg. He seemed to tolerate it just fine. However, several hours later, he vomited three times. My older son is allergic to eggs; however, he has never had this type of reaction. He has had the swelling of the throat, hives, etc. Could the vomiting be related to the egg? What was strange to me is that it was several hours later. Thanks!

What can I do next?

My daughter also just turned a year old and she threw up when I gave her eggs for the first time. She threw up about an hour after eating them. I decided to wait and try her on them again in a month or so to see if she still has the same reaction.

Hi K., My two year old daughter is allergic to 17 foods...and she has different reactions to different foods. Majority is eczema and there are a few foods that cause her to vomit. Eczema, vomiting, hives, swelling of the throat/stopping breathing, etc. are all reactions... its just finding out which one happens with which foods. NORMALLY, a child allergic to a specific food that would cause vomiting.. would happen within the hour. But it can certaining take longer... there are about 3 foods that cause that reaction with our daughter and it takes about 2-3 hrs for her to vomit. I am sorry your children have food allergies. I know how difficult it can be. I hope this is the only food your son has an allergy to. And I hope I was little helpful.

Several hours is a long time for it to be an allergy. Normally, the reaction to something is MUCH sooner than several hours, especially when it comes to food. Try it again and go from there............

We have this same situation for my middle son. And it happens every time he has something that has alot of egg in it. ((ie french toast, straight eggs, etc)) I talked to his dr and he said if he isn't breaking out in hives or have a fever or swelling in his throat, it's a mild allergy and it would be very traumatic to make him go through allergy testing, since the best way, in his opinion, is the one where they do a bunch of needles in his skin. He said for now, just avoid the eggs.
I'd ask, has he had any issues with vaccines? If he has had reactions, you may want to get an allergy test done, to be safe.
Good luck, it's so painful to watch them get sick like that. :(

It may or may not be related their stomachs at that age even aren't ready to handle certain foods that could of been the problem... I had given my daughter a food when she was starting out on finger food and it upset her stomach and made her vomit hours after eating it...
It could of been a bug that was already in his system and the egg just didn't agree with him.. If he keeps vomiting I would take him to the dr and have him seen they can do the allergy test on him as well too see if he is allergic to eggs or not!!
Good luck

It is possible and it's also possible he just has a stomach bug. Usually you see vomiting due to food allergies more quicker than hours later. Did he eat jar foods with noodles and tolerate them okay? They use egg noodles in most jar foods, so he would have been exposed to eggs then. Did he get a flu shot and, if so, how did he handle that? Those are egg based, which is why I can't get one because of a mild egg allergy (I can eat cooked eggs, but not raw). I would talk to your doctor and hold off on eggs until then. Good luck!

I would have him tested by an Allergist. The skin prick testing is what my children have had. My son is allergic to cashews and his reaction did not show up until at least an hour or two later and that is actually common with the first reaction and the fact that he had other food at the same time. Good luck!
