Edaville Railroad/Other Day Trips

We are thinking of places to take our 18 month old twins for our vacation. We'll probably just take day trips. One place we were thinking of was Edaville Railroad. They don't know much about Thomas the Tank yet (they do have a book) and I know this is a big draw. Anyway.. we don't want to waste our time if they are too young for it. Any opinions? Also if anyone out there have any suggestions that would be great. Keep in mind they are 18 month old twins who zig when the other zags! Thanks out there!

What can I do next?

Hi! Edaville is a great place. I took both my boys there last summer. My youngest was 18 months old and was able to go on the rides and the train ride was fun. I will say that if I tried to take him and my 3 year old by myself it would've been a challenge. Having that second set of hands was great! so i would recommend it but with some help. :) It is fun and he went on at least 2-3 rides and they had a blast. I hope to do it again this summer. enjoy!

I took my daughter there when she was 4. She had a good time but keep in mind the sun and heat. I found there wasn't much shade. It isn't a very big place, not a lot of rides and the train ride seemed to be the main attraction.I really wouldn't do it again. it is supposed to be the best around christmas time. How do you feel about travelling a bit farther? Story land in new hampshire was much more fun and kid friendly.. Hope this helps. Have fun!

Hi K.,

Here are a couple of places I have taken my children. Good for young children (and old ;-)).

Southwick Zoo (Mendon, MA)
Davis Farmland (Sterling, MA)

If you wanted to go away for a few days, Story Land in Storyland, New Hampshire is perfect for your childrens ages. They would have a great time!!! http://www.storylandnh.com/whatyoullseeatstoryland.html

Hope this helps! Enjoy whatever you end up doing!!!!

Hi there.
It's Coli.
I just saw this and wanted to tell you about the indoor water park in Danvers. It's great. The kids would love it. They have the little kids pool and slides and then one for bigger kids then one for us big kids. There's a lazy man river. It's a lot of fun. We go about 4 times a year.
We have to get together soon.

I think they're a little young for Edaville. Try Southwick's Zoo in Mendon or the Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence. The Zoo is part of a big park where there is plenty of shade and places to picnic. The Zoo has exhibits appropriate for young ones as well as things for other kids. Take a stroller and a picnic. There is a snack bar but you can bring in your own food. The Ecotariam in Worcester has some tot-friendly exhibits and an outdoor zoo (small) as well as a tot play area indoors and a small playground outside. There is a train ride around the grounds which is fun - there is a tunnel and the engineer invites everyone to yell as loud as they can while passing through - avoid that if your kids don't like noise. But you can watch the train go by while roaming the outdoor animal exhibits and the passengers always wave to people they pass. There is a Children's Discover Museum in Acton with 2 buildings - one is for older kids but the main one is a converted house, with each room dedicated to a different theme (water/bubbles, jungle, nautical, diner, etc.) - Definitely fun for all ages. Bring a change of clothes in case they get a little wet in the water room - there's a water table but the kids can get a little drippy! Boston Children's Museum is also great. Sometimes the public libraries have passes so you can get in free or for a reduced price - reserve ahead if you can. If you find a place you like, take out a membership - then if you go and the kids poop out after an hour, you don't feel like you've wasted your money, and you can go again and again. Have fun!
