Eczema Treatments During Pregnancy

My sister is pregnant right now and has severe eczema, which she can no longer take her normal meds for because of the baby. Does anybody have any safe alternatives for soothing or treating the eczema during her pregnancy? Or does she just have to grin and bear it for the remainder of her pregnancy? Thank you for any suggestions!

Hello K.,

Just a thought...if your sister has allergies, she's probably consuming something that's triggering her eczema (like soy or wheat or ragweeds of which lettuce is a member of that plant 'family'.) Congrats and good luck to your sister! ~Carmen~

Hi K.,

Tell your sister to ask her doctor for a compound of Eucerine and 2% hydrocordazone cream. It relieves the the rash and itchy skin. I hope this helps her good luck.

I'll recommend Nivea's Intensive Moisturizing Lotion. It is a little greasy feeling on your hands, but it is very soothing and the only thing that helps my mild eczema. I've noticed on their website that they make a few newer products that are a different name then the one I gave you. However the stores should have stock of the one I mentioned as well. I'm guessing the new ones are just as good or better and am eager to try them when I see them in stock.

coconut oil is the best thing to use for eczema. i use it on myself and my 2.5yr old son who has severe eczema due to many things. It is extremely healthy with lots of antioxidants and it is also extremely safe and inexpensive. To be clear, this is coconut oil that you may use to cook, like olive oil except at room temperature it is not a liquid. just type into good "coconut oil and eczema" and you can read all about it. My sons homeopath is the one who told me to use it and now my whole family uses it as a moisturizer. it takes time to heal it completely but the itchiness goes away pretty quick.

Hi K.---I've read where fish/flaxseed oil can help to reduce inflammation. I recommend getting your flaxseed oil from the whole seed. It is one of the best superfoods available. It is best ground fresh as you use it to prevent the oils from oxidizing. Ground flaxseed is an excellent source of omega 3 fatty acids, it has alot of fiber and that fiber contains lignans and alot of protein. The lignans are important as they have lots of vitamins and minerals and are known to have cancer fighting qualities in them as well.

I am a Wellness Educator and I know that our diet plays a huge role in just about everything that happens to us medically, including eczema. Do you think your sister would be interested in a way, that is whole food based, to help her body heal from whatever causes her body to develop eczema? It is important to note, that whatever we do to help our bodies with diet, will also help your sister's developing baby, both of their risk for degenerative disease and then things that are as simple as preventing or minimizing the effects of the common cold. Our food is that powerful, if we get enough of the right stuff, and avoid the foods that can harm us. Creams, ointments and prescriptions all impact the result of an underlying problem, which usually can be addressed through better nutrition.

I'd be happy to do a wellness presentation for you both, as well as any other family and friends that are interested in optimizing their health through whole food nutrition. I look forward to hearing from you and talking about what you would like to know.

In health, D. ###-###-####

I would recommend that she use Arbonne. It is a Swiss formulated skin care line (made in the USA) that is herbally and botanically based. I have several clients who have experienced tremendous relief with our Cleansing Gel and NutriminC Body Serum & Lotion. If the excema is on her face, I would recommend Arbonne's Rejuvenating Cream. It has a lot of Vitamin E in it and it awesome for highly stressed skin. Many of my clients with Rosacea & excema use and love this product. If she is interested she is welcome to contact me at ###-###-#### or email me at ____@____.com she is not happy with the products, there is a $$$ back guarantee and I would give her a full refund. Good luck

My eczema, which has been severe at times, is provoked by the nightshade family (potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, pepper, tobacco) and wheat and milk.

My daughter has severe eczema, and a delayed food allergy panel (blood test) with US Biotek revealed a number of foods that she's reponding to in a delayed fashion. We removed those foods from her diet (wheat, gluten, milk, casein, soy, pineapple, sunflower and a few nuts) and her eczema dramatically improved. The doctor is just amazed.

Whatever foods she craves are probably top eczema contributors.

Suggest that she avoid the top 8 or ten allergens for two weeks (wheat, milk, nuts, etc) and see if t here's a differencein her skin.

Cortisone suppresses the body's natural reaction to an allergen, it doesn't "cure" the allergy. Suppression is not good.

Vaseline and many products come from petroleum, a toxin. The skin is the largest organ, and you don't want to use gasoline (vaseline) or petroleum products, esp during pregnancy.

Finding the offending food and removing it from the diet would be a better option.

Sometimes, digestive enzymes can help an individual digest food better and not react so strongly on the skin. I think they're safe during pregnancy (they're not a drug) but she should clear anything like that w/ her doctor. I am not a doctor and this is not medical advice.

I use the California Baby exzema cream on my daughter. My guess is since it is all natural...it would be safe to use during pregnancy too.

I would slather in vasoline. My son has terrible exczema but the doctors think he is too young to do much. I slather him twice daily with a heavy coating, much like people do for dry hands, and then put cotton clothing on him.

Hi K.,

I wanted to comment even though some have already suggested my remedies. I have had ezcema for 10 years and my son has a very mild case. I do not like the steroid creams and use those as an absolute last resort. Ezcema is a condition caused by imflammation. One of the keys is reducing sugar intake, increasing fiber intake and Acidophius (sp). Along with CeraVe cream I use during the day. However, I LOVE and have had great results with the Arbonne Awaken Salt Scrub. I don't use the salt, but the oil in this and works wonders. Once her ezcema has cleared and can tolerate the salt I occassionally use it, it nice to use on your feet too. I use the oil base from the Arbonne product on my son. If down the road, the baby has sensitive skin I recommend the ABC Arbonne sunscreen. That is the only suncreen that doesn't make my sun breakout! Good Luck and kudos to you for helping!

Get to a Better Health or Whole Foods store. There should be something to rub in they could advise. Tri-Flora creme or gel. Something like that.

The best treatment is PURE Shea Butter. That stuff is amazing. I have used it for my grandchildren and it cured their eczema and it even cleared up Psoriasis. I had a friend that had it for the last 5 years and it cleared it up in weeks. what I use is 100% pure shipped directly from Ghana, Africa. It is amazing I got it in a 5lb brick and i have had more than enough for family and friends I only paid 40.00 last year and paid only 15.00 UPS to have it shipped directly to my home!
Here is the information on it:How to Use our Unrefined Shea Butter

Pure, unrefined shea butter has a myriad of uses. We have outlined a few for you below:

* Dry skin
* Chapped skin or lips
* Sun damaged skin
* Wrinkles
* Stretch marks
* Scars and blemishes
* Eczema
* Cracked and dry heals or elbows
* Small wounds and scrapes
* Diaper rash (prevention and relief)
* Hair & Dread maintenance
* Insect bites & stings
* Arthritis
* Muscle fatigue, aches & tension (excellent massage oil)
* Burns
* Athletes Foot and other fungal infections
* Dogs & other pets (skin infections, dry skin & coats)
* Natural mechanics lubricant
* Horses (hoof maintenance, sunburn, scrapes)

How to Apply Shea Butter

For direct application to the skin, take a small amount in the palm of you hand. Rub your hands together to warm up the butter until it is smooth and liquid. Then apply to your skin.

If you are concerned about an oily feeling, use only a small amount or apply the shea butter before going to bed. Shea butter absorbs quickly into the skin, but there will be a few minutes that it feels oily.

Shea butter can also be applied to your hair. Some people apply it before washing to protect the hair from harsh shampoos. It can also be applied after washing as a conditioner. Apply it in the same manner as to the skin.
Here is the link I use to order it! Good luck and let me know how you it works for you. To buy it here in the US is extremely expensive!

My daughter has really bad eczema and a medical assistant who worked for a dermatologist recommended CeraVe, and it works great for her. You can buy it at Walgreens and it comes in a jar that looks a bit like cetaphil and it costs about $14, but should be totally safe for her to use.

Hi K.,
Eczema is a disease that is directly related to toxins and chemicals in our environment.

Reduce the toxic load by using only organic products and the eczema goes away.

Our company has a complete line of organic products that cost about the same as regular store brands. Our Renew Lotion has been clinically tested against the number one lotion prescribed by doctors, Eucerine, and proven to be 8-10 times more effective in treating eczema and psoriasis.

Interested? Go to my website www.ThisFamilyCounts.com and "Get Info Now". I'll contact you shortly!

Hi K.! Usana Health Sciences has a wonderful lotion and skin care line! They are based out of Salt Lake City, Utah. The skin care line is called SENSE' (Saansay). Sense'looks at the WHOLE picture - the combining factors that produce beautiful, healthy skin - science,dermatology, and nutrition. Your skin is a direct reflection of what is going on inside your body! Sense' was the first skin/body line in the world to be paraben and chemical preservative free and totally self-preserving with a full 2 year shelf life. It is known that it only takes 10-15 minutes for what you put on your skin to absorb into your bloodstream. The Breast Cancer Foundation has lobbyed for several years now to ban parabens (18 of 22 breast cancer tumors were found with parabens fully intact). My sister had breast cancer at the age of 35 (she has 5 daughters), and we are very cafeful today of what we put on our skin. There are many testimonials on how Sense has helped people with eczema. You may also want to check out their nutritionals. They are rated the top Nutritional in North America right now for potency and purity (Comparative Guide to Nutritional Supplements, by Lyle MacWilliam). Many olympic athletes use them as there is a one million dollar guarantee that they wont be tested positive for any unknown substance. NO OTHER NUTRITIONAL COMPANY HAS THIS GUARANTEE! Dr. Wentz, the founder of this company first owned Gull Laboratories. He developed 30 viral test kits that are used in hospitals worldwide today, one of them being the Epstein Barr Virus test kit that detects Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, or Fibromyalgia. After his mom died from breast cancer and his dad from heart disease, he changed his whole focus from disease detection, to disease prevention. In 1992, He began Usana Health Sciences (Usana is Greek/Latin maening "True Health") He is a doulble PhD, world renowned immunologist and microbiologist. He is a world expert on cellular nutrition, and has recently recieved the Albert Einstein award for expertise in the Life Sciences. He knows what it takes to keep the cells in your body healthy, both through the nutritionals he has formulated (They are actually more potent than prenatals)! which are listed in the Physicians Desk Reference in Drs. offices and hospitals worldwide, and his chemical free skin care which is recommended by world renowned dermatologists!! I wish I could go on about my story but it would take too long!! I'm 44 years old now and look and feel better than I ever have! (I was not in good health, and did not have good skin)! Didn't mean to ramble on, but I feel I need to spread this word as Usana is not well known yet in this area. I'm so glad I had found out about Usana!! My husband and I and our 3 children have been using the products for 6 years now and we have not been to the Dr's office at all (and we were there a Lot!) except for our kids' well child checkups. The Dr even made a comment to me that we haven't been in very much and wondered if we were seeing another Dr. You can check out their website to get more information. I hope this helps and I wish you and your sister all the best! Blessings!

I know i am a little late in responding, but just in case you haven't found something that will work... my son suffers from eczema. Most conditions of eczema are allergy related, so avoiding the triggers will help tremendously, for him it is egg and dog. But in the mean time if she doesn't know her triggers, we use Borage oil (an essential fatty acid) she can take it or apply it to her skin. We also coat him in Eucerin cream which keeps him from scratching when it gets really bad. I am also hearing a lot about Neem oil to rub on the skin (found at Whole Foods)- Organix South is a good brand. It is smelly but has wonderful anti-inflamatory and antibacterial properties and reduces the heat that comes with Eczema. Also tell your sister to make sure to spend time relaxing and taking care of herself...stress willl make it worse. Good luck to your sister.
