Eczema Relief
Has anyone tried any of the herbal/natural remedies for eczema? Please NO Arbonne or Melaleuca. I've tried both of those and they actually made my 2 year old's skin worse! She reacts to substances in those products. I've also used Avon Skin So Soft, which gave some improvement. I've been searching the internet and some of the creams have interesting and bold claims. I just wondered if anyone had actually tried them before I ordered. We've also used Clear E Skin Cream, Elidel and steriod creams. I've changed to organic sunscreens which helps prevent an all over reaction. We're working with an allergist to determine the cause but I'd love to stop my daughter's suffering!

My daughter suffers from eczema as well as allergies. I did some research and eliminated dairy products from her diet and have found that it helps tremendously. She has not had a flare-up in over a year.
I'm about to try raw milk as I've also read that it has tremendous benefits for those who suffer with allergies. You can read the following article for more info if you like... http://v.mercola.com/blogs/public_blog/Is-Raw-Milk-Right-....
Best wishes to you.

M.,
My 4 year old is allergic to sunscreen and we have tried about every sunscreen there is...paba-free, all organic...you name it! We finally found Coppertone does not make her react. Her reactions are pretty severe and they itch and are horrible. The only thing that gives her any relief is Aquaphor. It says it's for babies but it works wonders for us. We love it and it has worked better than Elidel or the steriod creams we've tried. Good luck!

I have been having the best results with CeraVE in the lotion/skin care dept at Walgreens.(12.99) It was recommended by the Phamacy Dept. Do this with Neosporine and apply several times a day.

We bought FreeDerm off of the internet after our daycare recommended it. They had another child with bad excema and it worked for him. We tried it and also had great results. I remember taking it into my ped's office and asking if it was safe and they said it was. We used it for a long time and loved it. Thankfully, we don't need it anymore and her excema has mostly cleared. She just has little spots that come up now and then. Good Luck- we also had poor results with standard treatments- Aquafor made her red and bumpy all over, which totally suprised her doc. He said he had never heard of anyone reacting to it before. Also be careful with sunscreen this summer. My daughter reacts to alot of brands. I just use plain zinc oxide on her now.

My 8 year old son had eczema so bad it covered him from his elbows where red whelps seeped and bled up across his arms and shoulders and up his neck as it began to reach his eyelids I got frantic. There is an allergy treatment called NAET they have a website www.NAET.org. The treatments seem a little strange but are completely non invasive usually given by a Chiropractor or Acupuncturist we discovered his allergies(milk was a big one) and treated them. That was Feb of this year and he can now eat whatever he wants and there is no eczema. I highly recommend it.

Have you had your child checked for food allergies? Mine had eczema too and I used Aquaphor, which you can buy at the drug store over the counter or try the very helpful people at Whole Foods- they always have great products. But back to food allergies, I would research that as mine had milk and wheat allergies and once I changed their diest, the eczema went away. It is trial and error, listen to your mother's instinct and be patient. It takes a couple of weeks to get food out of your system I found, so you may not see changes over night. I found the following book very helpful : Is This Your Child? by Doris Rapp, M.D.

Hi - I've had eczema all my life. You probably know by now to use fragrant free lotions, like Cetaphil. Also wash her clothes in fragrance free detergent and don't use dryer sheets that have perfume. That might help. Something I recently started using is pycnogenol. I read about it in the newspaper. I don't know if your baby is old enough but it comes in a capsule so you could pull it apart and use it that way. A lot of people swear that this has cured their eczema. I just started using it and so far, I see some improvement but I just started using it. Good luck!

M.,
Creams will never fix the problem, M., no matter what kind they are. Eczema is a food intolerance problem. There was a recent big article about the connection to food in the Dallas Child magazine. Did you see it?
You need testing. I suggest www.enterolab.com. This is a lab in Plano that does stool testing, the best testing for this kind of problem. Don't bother with skin scratch or blood testing. They are invasive for a poor little, already irritated 2 year old and the results are unreliable.
Order test kit online. No physician referral needed. Send in the specimen. They email you the results. EASY!!! Gluten and dairy are the most likely culprits, with soy as a third runner up. Your pediatrician is likely ill-educated, as most conventional MDs, about food intolerances, since they learn nothing about food in med school.
Take matters into your own hands and help your child heal! Creams will never do that.
Good luck!

I have a box full of prescription eczema medication, yet I found I got better results using Dermarest. You can get it at Walmart or any drug store. They make other products, so be sure you get the one for eczema. You can learn more on their website.
Good luck.
