My daughter is having a cupcake decorating party, but I'm looking for a craft to have a craft table. I'm going to have coloring sheets and crayons, but I was hoping to find something that is easy and inexpensive. We will also be at a playground and I plan on having some games for the kids to play. I'm trying to set up stations. A cupcake decorating station, a game station and a craft station. It's a Hello Kitty theme if that helps and I was thinking of making masks of the characters. Any other ideas? It doesn't have to be Hello Kitty related and it is a coed party.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Since the party will be at a playground and due to the number of kids going to be invited, I'm requesting that at least one parent stay at the party. It's for my daughter's 5th birthday and the other parties we have been going to for this age the parents still stay so I don't think the parents will be upset staying. So I think there will be enough parents to man stations, but I will ask a specific few to man stations just to be sure. Thanks for the great ideas. It seems that when I search pinterest the crafts seem to require a lot of materials. I was hoping and I did get some ideas that don't require so many materials. I have some crafting materials, but I don't want to spend a fortune on them either.

Look at the Family Fun web site. They always have really cute, kid friendly crafts. Or visit the dollar section at Target, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc. They sometimes have cute things for painting or to make with foam stickers.

Have you looked on Pinterest yet? I am so sure you will find some fun stuff on there. I actually just saw a fun thing on a blog for a template for printing out paper glasses and they can be decorated however you want, I would go with stickers or glue dots for the embellishments since you won't have all the time in the world for white glue to dry, and those kids will want to wear their creations right away anyhow! Oh...or decorating party hats or little foam visors might be fun too...think Dollar Tree :)

Ages 3 and 4 will need assistance doing an edible craft and a craft !
I would have a relative or friend there to help !! You might need an adukt at several of the stations !

I love kitty cupcakes:

Frost cupcakes
M and M s for eyes
THIN pretzels for whiskers
Candy corn for nose and ears

Make a few ahead of time !! Have samples for the kids to see...Refrigerate them so they are more "sturdy" --See if a store will give you deep containers for carrying them home...otherwise, it could be messy ! I rec that u have 2 or 3 kids making cupcakes at a time...no more than that.

Paper bag cat puppets are easy !

I love fruit loop cereal activities! Especially for parties where it seems more ok to have colorful processed food offered to groups. :) You could have the kids make necklaces they could eat later, or multipurpose the cereal to 'glue' on your already bought paper to make rainbows or bows or even hello kitties (you could use either real glue or frosting that is also edible to stick the loops to the paper). Just an idea. ;) let us know what you decide.

No matter how many stations you plan or what the craft activities are... do you have, other adults who will man it and assist the kids with it?
At those ages, there needs to be assistance with any of those craft activities.
Being it is on a playground, will you then also have tables set up for the "stations?" Or will it be on mats... on the ground type thing?
Think this out.... will you have other adults/you/your Husband or other family members there, to help with those craft activities and also to supervise the kids???
And for all those games?

Then, you need to plan a time frame for the party... how long is it from start to finish? Kids at 3/4/5 years old, get tired and/or still nap. What time will the party be? Will it also, include food/lunch or snacks?
How long, will it take for the kids to do the activities and everything?
Based on that, then plan how many activities to do. And a time frame.
And for real young kids, they do not have long attention spans or full coordination for complex games or crafts.

I have a couple of activities-not exactly crafts. When my boys were little we always did tattoos at birthday parties. I would have a large assortment of tattoos and a spray bottle of water to apply them. I also used to make a ring toss game using Chubby soft drinks. The kids had to toss a rubber canning ring around the Chubby drink and they won the drink. A bean bag toss is easy to make. Another thing we always did was a candy scramble.
