a few things I have filled baskets with in the past are,

legos
art and craft supplies
fun bath treats
fun toothbrush, paste, etc. treats
books
bubbles
stickers
theme of their fav things - barney, power rangers, pokemon . . .

also, a really fun thing to do with Easter baskets is grow grass in it. Here is a link to a post I did with directions. http://www.myatlantamommy.com/2010/02/very-green-easter-b...

thrifty fun has a great list for basket fillers,

Art supplies are a big hit with my 7-year-olds and stickers. Sketchbooks and coloring books fill up a basket quickly! Also, here's my "I'm a terrible mom"
confession for the day, but I often use the Easter basket for new clothing items that they need anyway -- spring windbreaker, new tennis shoes, summer pajamas. Have fun! I need to get shopping myself.

i always do a theme, last year it was gardening, i put garden boots, seeds, make your own stepping stone kit, little gloves and shovel. I also put chocolate and stuff like that too, but she got so much use out of this stuff.

This year im thinking i will do a reading/ writing theme.(cute books, magazines, a poetry book, a diary, sketchpad, neat gel pens, paint markers ...plus chocolate and all that other bad stuff.

we like going through the cheap bins of DVD's at Walmart for fun movies
art supplies are always fun
matchbox cars
action figures
$1 bins at Target and Michaels often have fun stuff

Mostly we do candy/Easter egg hunt for Easter and then one or two small things. The big gift giving is Christmas and Birthday in our family.

Get him the same thing I got my four year old son:
A $9 Fishing Pole from Wal-Mart (they have Transformers, Spider Man, and Spongebob for boys), a pack of plastic colorful worms for bait, and a pack of gummy worms for candy. Total: about $15 bucks with tax!! Its fun for the family, outdoors, and boys love it!
Have fun!

My girls are grown now but they still remember when the easter bunny pull this one. He put a message in a golden egg that said "Push Play" They knew immediatly what that meant and raced to the TV. Of course that was in the VCR days...lol. The easter bunny had put The Lion King video in the VCR and had it set to start at the beginning of the movie, not the junk at the beginning of most vidoes. THEY ABSOLUTLY LOVED IT! of course that was the newest movie out at the time, but if I'm not mistaken it started off with a big song.
SCORE for the eb!! lol

What's wrong with just candy? It's not Xmas. Easter you candy, you hunt for eggs, you dye eggs, and you get a new outfit for church. Why make it commerical. Keep it simple is my opinion. Enjoy the holiday!

For my son (almost 4) I did a kite, jump rope, bubbles, coloring books/crayons, a little stuffed lamb (tradition for us to put a little stuffed animal in there, he loves them) and a little storybook on Easter.
Happy Easter! :)

Just because I don't like giving my kids a basket full of candy, I usually add some kind of toy, stuffed animal and/or art supplies in there also. Sidewalk chalk and bubbles almost always make it into their baskets because they are usually a big hit and this is the right time of year for them.

Hi M.-

How about a kite? A frisbee? Some seeds to plant and grow...and then re plant outside? Some 'seasonal' books (spring...or easter/religious?) A new 'spring' dress outfit?

Best Luck!

You have plenty of good suggestions. I have small stuffed animals (my kids love beanie babies). I've also gotten small/inexpensive toys, outdoor stuff like bubbles and chalk, playdoh and toys for it, stickers, crayons, etc.

My son for example likes Thomas the train so I am going to put some trains and a conducters hat in his basket. He is 3.5 years old. I would agree to limit the candy. crayons, coloring books are good. stickers may be nice as well as some bubbles. If he likes stuffed animals put a small one in there. Good luck

My son turns four on Easter so I have an Easter basket stock pile started of Hershey Kisses, the ONLY candy he'll eat and some cars from both "Toy Story 3" and "Cars."

I'm praying the "Cars 2" merchandise comes out soon, I'm not paying crazy E-Bay prices for a $2.99 car. He'll also get lots of beach toys.

Last year was a little stuffed bunny, plastic eggs which I put a few jelly beans in each, an awesome big egg with a clear top with a firetruck hotwheels in it, and a couple chocolates.
This year: a baby bunny for the little guy and a soccer ball frame for the big guy's first soccer photo, the DVD Tangled, and a Veggie Tales 365 day devotional book. And of course those plastic eggs: some with jellybeans, some with easter M&Ms. We'll go to church, dye eggs and hide them along with the plastic ones from the basket. (The real eggs, we'll eat later). Also thinking a couple little containers of play-doh for each (The size that you put in party favor bags).
Being so close to the beach this year, I admit I already bought all the beach and summer toys as soon as they hit the shelves, but those are if you haven't gotten them already (water guns, colored bubbles are the new thing, I got a battery operated bubble gun, balls, bodyboards, shovels/buckets, etc).
