Oh my goodness....I am in pain...
Well ladies, I am writing because you all are always very helpful and I have another problem. I have never had a ear infection before and right underneath my ear in my pressure point into my jaw I am having a burning, achy, pain. It shoots all the way done my jaw, just on the left side. I slept with the heating pad last night on it, and it still did not relieve the pain. I just want to know if its an earache or something else....and if it just needs time to pass. Because I just dont want to go to the doctor and him tell me its just going to take time and take tylenol or advil. Which I have already been doing....and it doesnt releive the pain much. I feel fine otherwise, no headache, fever, I still have an appetitie and stuff its just really bad pain in my pressure point to my left side of my face. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. Thank you ladies...the sooner the better...!!
T.
P.s. I dont mean to be a stickler about going to the doctor its just mine is 100 miles away so if I can take care of it at home...thats better for me. Thanks again!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you for all your help and wonderful suggestions....but I ended up going to the doctor because I was afraid that I had an ear infection that needed an antibiotic. But it turned out to be a pulled muscle in my neck that was shooting pain into my cheek and ear and down my shoulder. The doctor gave me some medicine for the inflammation....and to continue using the heating pad. Thank you for your help with this... I greatly appreciate it!!

Sounds like an infected tooth to me. If a tooth is dying- it will be sensitive to cold. You can freeze a wet qtip and then place it quickly on each tooth- one second of pain can be normal, but pain that lasts longer and is more intese is a good indicator of a bad tooth. Really the only type of pain meds that work for me with tooth pain is vicoden. If you dont have that try iboprofen but you will have to take it more often. Sometimes a qtip dipped in tea tree oil rubed on and around the tooth by the guns can help numb it a little.

I had an OLD root canal go south and flair up- that was worse that any pain i originally had. It flaired up because I wiggled it. (it was loose in the socket and I knew it). The reason it was loose is there was infection at the tip of it. Well, wiggling it flaired a raging infection- I needed to get it worked on to ease the pain and fix it.

Oh boy.. Ear infections hurt SO bad as adults. I remember feeling just like that and I had a bad one. But of course, I don't know for sure. Just remembering the pain. Ouch!

You could have an ear infection in which case I use organic garlic oil, warm it (just a little so you don't burn yourself), and put a few drops in the ear. The nice thing is you get pain relief and even if you don't have an ear infection it won't hurt you.

Now your pain seems to be pretty low so it could be two other things. You could have an inner ear infection which the garlic trick doesn't really help. The organic fresh garlic though has a lot of healing qualities so if you can stand it, eat a whole raw organic clove. It is spicy and you will stink for a few days but it could help your immune system fight it. The next thing it could be is a wisdom tooth coming in or infected. Here is how I could tell the difference; if you have an inner ear infection you will also feel a bit dizzy with the pain, if it is your wisdom teeth then you will have a hard time opening your mouth and not have any dizziness.

Hope this helps. If you cannot control it in the next couple days you will probably have to take the drive and get it taken care of. Good luck.

Could it be a problem with a tooth? My husband had jaw pain like that once and he needed a root canal.

If you can get one, I'd try a nasal rinse. Walgreens carries them. Not a neti pot, but an actual rinse, where you spray it in. They aren't pleasant, but I have been able to get very painful ears to empty out this way, both for myself and my kids. They can also keep a sinus infection under control without needing antibiotics, because they clean out the sinuses and allow them to drain properly, leaving nothing for the infection to fester in. However, I agree with the idea that it's probably a tooth problem, but I do know that sinus infections can present as teeth pain. Hope you feel better soon!

Is there a walgreens or cvs nearer to you with a take care clinic? You can get them to check your ears (a nurse practioner) -- they accept most insurance (even my HMO) or it is much cheaper than seeing a doc somewhere if you aren't insured. You might need an antibiotic to take care of it if it in an inner ear infection. Do you have a fever? Otherwise, try some sweet oil (you can get at a pharmacy) warmed under the hot faucet and some cotton in your ears for a day or so and see if it helps (home remedy from my childhood). Good luck!

You can make your own garlic oil, it has natural antibiotics. Heat 1/2 cup oil in micro or on stove. put the oil in a small sterilized container, and then add 2 pressed cloves of garlic. cover and leave over night (for better results) and in the morning stir it and strain it. Put a couple drops in the infected ear. you can also let it cool and then strain it and use it right away, but it will not be as potent.
Once you put the drops in lay on the opposite side for at least 2-5 min. longer with more pain. I would put it in every few hrs or at least 3 times a day. I used this on my last baby because he kept getting ear infections and I didn't want all the drugs in his body. It worked really well. And my parents used to use it on me when I was little. It does help with the pain a little bit too.
Good luck!
