My internist just prescribed Amoxicillin for me for 10 days for a sinus infection. I am 6 days from my due date. I plan to nurse my baby (nursed my last one a year). I KNOW amoxicillin passes through breastmilk to the baby -- my question is whether any of you have had to take amoxicillin while nursing when your baby was so young!?!? How did it go? I plan to keep up with my probiotics, yogurt and Kefir so I am hoping to avoid thrush or a yeast infection. Superfun! I am getting Penicillin for GBS during delivery too -- talk about a double-dose shot of penicillin -- lucky me!

Thanks mamas!

MORE - I already take probiotics morning and night....for those suggesting them. Thx

What can I do next?

From what I understand, antibiotics are only necessary and/or work in about 1/2 of sinus infection cases. So, 50/50 chance you even need them. What is your history w/ sinus infections.....do you think you need the antibiotics? If it was me, I would not take them assuming the infection would clear up on its own in a few days time. Good luck & congrats.

Perfectly fine. Might just want to take an acidpohilus supplement with it.

I had to have amoxicilin twice when my baby was less than one month old and again when my baby was three months old. I breast fed and my doctor told me it was totally safe for the baby. Actually, it gives the baby extra immunity. Hope you feel better...and congratulations!

I am sure the doctor wouldn't have given it to you if he/she didn't think it was safe. CONGRATS!

Amoxicillin and Penicilian are in the same family of antibiotics. All of the -cillans are. Typically anything that's safe to take during pregnancy is safe to take during breastfeeding.

surprised they gave you anything but it should be safe. google it but i don't think theyd give it to you knowing you're due anyday now.

but on that note: your hormones are sending you in a frenzy which could be the CAUSE of this sinus infection. Possibly a clear sign labor is impending at ANY minute!!! WHOOP! good luck!

Before I read all of it I thought "surely it is fine since they dose you up for GBS" They kept the penicillin on me during my whole labor (24 hours)! I'd assume it is fine then, but you might call the pediatrician and see if they have a probiotic supplement they want you to take?
