Have it looked at.
I thought I had dry skin (hands) and it was eczema. No lotion in the world is going to control that--if it is eczema.
Otherwise, try some Aquaphor on them at night the cotton gloves or socks on her hands.
I agree about the lanolin--best to avoid it.

Thick lotion or cocco butter, lather in on and rub in twice a day, morning and night. As for the hands, buy some beauty gloves at CVS or Boston Beauty Supply and soak your child's hands in the thick lotion and let him or her sleep overnight with the gloves on. The same goes for feet, you can use any pair of old, thick socks. Look for a good balm for the face and a good chapstick. Keep it simple and I hope it helps.

I also have super dry skin in winter. I like using Aveeno's lotion on my body but it is not enough for my hands. Creams work much better than lotions on hands. I like Neutrogena's hand cream.Gold Bond hand cream also works good for me.

My son does too. I use the Aveeno products. They seem to help him. Also, it helps if they drink extra fluids, and use soaps/shampoos that do not have the antibacterial soap in them. That dries up the skin so fast. Dove works good.

We like to use a couple drops of sesame oil.

I also have very dry skin. Lotion doesn't help (especially in the winter), I need a cream. I like St. Ives, but there are lots of good ones. Just make sure they are unscented. When my hands are dry a scented lotion just burns.

My granddaughter has dry skin and eczema. The dermatologist said to use an emollient cream; not a lotion. A lotion is too light weight to take care of really dry skin. She used Eucerin and then found a generic brand of the same thing. Look for the word, emollient, when buying. And apply at least twice/day.

He also said to cut back on baths; quick coolish showers are best. And use a mild soap such as Dove.

2 oz beeswax
2 oz coconut oil
2 oz almond oil
2 oz olive oil
2 oz shea butter
Essential oils(I like lavender and mint) 20 drops Lavender, 8 drops peppermint
Melt all in double boiler, pour into heat safe containers(I recycle old altoids tins), then add essential oils, and let cool completely...If it's too soft, scrape back into double boiler and add more beeswax.
All of these oils have healing properties, and the beeswax helps seal in moisture.

If it doesn't bother her to do so, rub this balm into her hands and place cloth gloves over them, and let her sit with them for a few hours.

BTW, Mamas, after a ped egg treatment, slather some of this on your tired tootsies and put on some nice cotton footies--works wonders on calluses!

I have hand eczema so I have prescription medicine, Vanos. I found out I'm allergic to lanolin. Lanolin is in a lot of lotions and creams. My kids use aveeno and carmax but I was talking to a grandma today she uses oil of olay for her and her grandkids. They have beautiful skin and no dry skin. I also use vaseline per my dermotologist.

We live in Chicago and dry skin during the winter is common here too. We use Renew Intensive Skin Therapy Lotion. It beat Eucerine in a double blind clinical study years ago. It totally moisturizes and does not leave our skin oily.
There's also has a hand wash, bath oil, travel size and full bottles. I can send you a brochure if you'd like. 100% money back guarantee is a plus too! Just inbox an email address you want it sent to.

I suggest Aquaphor. Lotion really won't help much with dry skin. My sons have dry skin and eczema and the pediatrician gave me so many different expensive prescriptions for it which helped but never really got rid of the problem. Then I had my sister who is a pediatrician (in another state) look at their skin. She told me to put Aquaphor on the dry, itchy areas as often as possible and it works wonderfully! All that time and money I spent on prescriptions didn't work nearly as well at a $16 tub of Aquaphor.

I usually apply it before bed every night because the texture is thick so I don't like to use it that much during the day. It did take a little getting used to but since it works so well, it's worth it. During the day, I usually apply it only as needed. I also apply it to the back of my hands and it creates a barrier that protects my hands from the drying effects of soap. You can put it on her hands before bed and put gloves on. Or only apply it to the backs of her hands during the day.

As someone who has ALWAYS had dry skin I can give you some tips. After I shower and before I dry off I use baby oil (they make a thicker version now so it doesn't get all over the shower floor) then dry off. I use one side of the towel for may hair and the other for my body (otherwise the oil gets in your hair). When I was little my hands would get really bad too....my mom would have me rub Vaseline on them and sleep in cotton gloves with rubber gloves over them...aaaahhhh...I wouldn't survive the winter without them! Good luck!

My skin becam very dry and I went to a dermatologist. He told me to buy a tub of Cera Ve. I see on tv where you can go online and get a coupon. I find it at CVS and I think Walgreens has it. It is about 16.00 for a 16 oz tub of it, but it really works good. I also use the soap for my face and body. Hope this helps.

I lotion from collar bones to toes everytime I shower, sometimes in winter I do it when I get dressed for the day and after my shower at night. Get her a bottle of lotion to keep by her bed and show her how to lotion herself daily. Hands, I use any of the ones that are called 'healing'. Sometimes I need a little extra and I use Bag Balm and put gloves on until it soaks in.

Lillian O has a good solution. Also try putting on a thick layer of vaseline and then using a warm wash cloth wipe off the excess. Another thing would be to add a little of the thick lanolin to what Lillian listed for a winter body cream.

Good luck to you.
