Dry Heaves

That's one of the varied, joyful ways a digestive virus (sometimes called stomach flu) can make itself known. If that's what she has, then she should be better within the next 24-48 hours. If she seems to take a turn for the worse, develops a significant fever, or is completely unable to eat or drink, then call your doctor's office for advice and maybe an appointment.

If it does not begin to improve within two days, there are other potential problems, such as an intestinal blockage or appendicitis (nausea and dry heaves were the only symptom I had for the four days before my appendix burst). I would definitely call the doctor if she stays ill.

Poor little kid – nausea is no fun, and can be very exhausting. Try to keep her sipping water or pedialite. I hope she feels better soon.

usually there is nothing left in your stomach, to vomit. You are still sick and going through the motions, but nothing is there to throw up. We all had that last year, throwing up/dry heaves every 20 mins, for about 10 hours. Hope your daughter's doesn't last that long.

She's probably just trying to get something up that is upsetting her stomach...maybe even a stomach virus. Have her sip water or ginger ale and if that makes her feel worse, maybe have her suck on some ice.

Stomach bug. My girlfriends son had it and it lasted 12 hrs and was gone without a trace! No fever or any other symptoms. Hope she feels better.

One other thing to watch is dehydration...vomiting and dry heaves are a part of that. My daughter was dehydrated a few years ago and after 2 trips to the doc in 12 hours (and them even TELLING us she was dehydrated, we ended up in the ER for 10 hours for iv fluids.) As soon as she had the ivs, she got her energy back, wanted to eat and seemed ok...signs to look for are not peeing much, no tears, non elastic skin on back of hands...even getting her to take a teaspoon of water every 15 minutes will help.
