Dry Eyes from Contact lenses...any Suggestions?

Hi Moms,
I've been a contact lenses wearer for nearly 15 years now and I love them! I've always found glasses to be very uncomfortable and inconvenient. Unfortunately, in the past 6 months or so I've been experiencing dry eyes when wearing my contacts. My eye doctor said this is a common complaint amongst long term contact lenses wearers and suggested I switch brands. So far I've tried Focus Dailies, Focus Aquacomfort Plus, and 1-day Acuvue Moist without any success. I've also tried rewetting with drops throughout the day without much relief. A friend suggested lasik but I can't afford that and I've heard dry eyes is a common complaint for Lasik as well... any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I had the same problem and now use Acuvue Oasys.
Mine are in continuously for 30 days. They of course arent supposed to be in that long, but if I take them out every night by the time I get up and get the kids ready and the kids that I babysit show up I dont have time to put them in. Every couple months I will take them out and put my glasses on for a couple days for my eyes to breath.

Have you tried Acuvue Oasys? I don't think they're dailies - I think they're 2-week.

Also, what type of solution are you using? Some are designed to add moisture back in. I use the Clear Care (hydrogen peroxide solution) because I get a lot of protein build-up. Oh - wait - if you're using dailies you're probably not using a solution, huh? Oops.

How long do you wear your contact lenses each day? Is it possible to shorten that time frame? I put my in around 6 am so once I am home for the day, I take them out and put my glasses on for the rest of the evening.

Can you stop wearing contacts for a few days or weeks, use "real tears" to lubricate your eyes while not wearing contacts and see if that helps before you resume wearing the contacts? Thinking maybe you just need a break.

What Denise K. said. Always put a drop in the contact before putting it on. Also, take the contacts out at night. Even if they're extended wear ones. Your eyes need contact free time. The brand didn't matter to me, the drops in the lens before putting it in is key.
Lasik's side effect is dry eyes for about a year. They recommend moisturizing drops 3 times a day for the first 3 months. That took care of that problem. Best thing I ever did for myself was eye surgery. It was worth every penny.

Blink for contacts is great. I put a drop in my contacts before putting them in and then usually one or two times during the day. I just started using alcon's new solution that adds more moisture. I can't remember the name off the top of my head, let me know if you want it. I have really dry eyes sometimes and so far this has been working. I did have to wear my glasses while I was pregnant, but since then a new brand of contacts, new solution and using blink I haven't had issues other than my eyes feel a little dry on occasion, before when I removed them I was sometimes taking a layer of eye tissue too most likely according to the eye doctor and that was part of the reason I was having a hard time. Hope something works for you.
