Drop in Daycare in Arlington Heights

We recently moved to Arlington Heights, IL. I'm a stay at home mom and so far we didn't have a need for a babysitter. However, I had a medical emergency last week and luckily my husband was able to look after our son. But it made us realize, that we really should have a backup plan for times when my husband is away on business or otherwise not able to help me out. We don't have any relatives in the area and so far I don't really know any people here. Does anyone know a daycare center that accepts children on a drop-in basis?

In addition, we are also looking for a babysitter so that we can go out for dinner once in a while. We were thinking of hiring a highschool girl (or boy). Any idea where to best advertise our need? Does the Red Cross or Park District (whoever offers babysitting classes) have a list of people interested in babysitting?

Thanks. Any help is greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

Thank you all for your suggestions. I will start making some phone calls. It looks like there are some daycare centers in the area that offer drop in services. I will also check out the suggestions for babysitters and I'm pretty sure we'll find a trustworthy person to take care of our children once in a while.

There is a drop-in daycare center in Northfield called Tick Tock Childcare. We use them frequently for our children and they're wonderful. It may be a bit out of your way, but it's a good option.

I know my sister uses students from DePaul University. You can call the college and they can direct you in the right direction. I do know that they charge $10 a hour. Hope this helps.

I was in the same situation, in need of someone to watch my little one as needed & for a night out. No relatives, not knowing many people, I went thru Sitter City & found sitters. There is a fee for the service, and I did make a process of interviewing & checking references, BUT, it was well worth it. Good luck!!

Our village hall has a list of trained babysitters (I know because my sons went through the previous classes!) So try the village hall, or your local churches, or the park district and I am sure you will find a lot of eager people to help out!

My kids used to go to a Bright Horizons in Schaumburg, and I know that they allowed drop-ins. That center has sinced closed, but they have various other ones in the area, including one in Arl. Hts (near Dundee & Kennicott), one in Mt. Prospect (right off of Golf Road, just past Goebbert), two others in Schaumburg (one at Motorola and another at Roosevelt University by IKEA). I've got two friends who use Bright Horizons as a backup for emergency drop-ins, so I believe just about all of their centers accept drop-ins. Good luck!
