Drooling

hi, my daughter michelle, just turned 3 months on 1/18. she has started drooling in the last week. it's a lot too!! when she laughs, a whole bunch gushes out of her mouth and she makes bubbles when she's self-entertaining. i think she's too young to be teething right?? plus, she isn't fussy and doesn't seem to be in any pain. is she just playing and discovering her drool or is it possible to start teething this young?? thanks!!

What can I do next?

My son started the drooling at 2 months. And it is a lot!! My pedi told me that it can be teething, although the aren't going to cut teeth that early. She also told me that it's a way of preparing them for eating. My son didn't cut his first tooth until almost 7 months. And the drooling would come and go. Good luck!

Hi. It probably isn't teething although it is possible for some babies to teeth this early. Teething usually involves some discomfort and she doesn't sound like she's hurting at all. Couple of things: 1) babies just don't swallow like we do so their drool has to find its way out of the mouth in other ways 2) if she has a stuffy nose, she may have to keep her mouth open to breathe properly which will seem like she's drooling more 3) she probably is just playing with and discovering it by blowing bubbles and making razzies. ENJOY!

Actually its not too young to start something like that. My daughter was about 2 and a half months old when she started the drooling like that. Her pediatrician said that there was nothing wrong with it and that they will usually start drooling a couple months before you see the first tooth. She is now 4 months and 1 week old. :-)

We make sure she has one of those liquid filled chew toys that you can chill in the fridge, and in spite of what my mother says about 'just use a dab of whisky and rub it on her gums', I use the baby orajel.

My daughter did the same thing right around that age and I was scared to death that she was teething already. Turns out she was just a drooler. It lasted for a little over a month and then it stopped until she actually started teething. It is possible for your baby to be teething...some do start that early. As long as your daughter is not fussy I would not worry about it. If she does get fussy, give her some cold teethers or a frozen wash cloth to chew on to help with any discomfort. Hope this helps and good luck.

yes, it is very possible to start teething at 3 months... it is also very possible to have teeth by 3 months.. my son , my husband , and myself all had at least one tooth by three months... well just some onfo hope i could help...
good luck, S.

It's totally possible that she could be teething. Both my girls cut their teeth early. My youngest got her first tooth at 3 mo. 10 days and had 8 by the time she was 7 months - and she's now almost 1 and doesn't have any more! Teeth are random and there's no specific time for them to start or stop. Of course, she could just be a drooler! I wouldn't worry!

Hey V.,
There is a stage that is like pre-teething. I read about it in one of the many childcare books. Anyway, I think it can last up to 3 months so that would be about right. My son is 16 months old now and he started drooling around that time but his first tooth didn't come through until he was 6 months old. Also - yes, she could really be teething this early. My niece's first tooth came in around 3 months. If she doesn't seem to be having any problems (stuffy, fever, fussy, sleep, etc) just try to keep her chin dry so she doesn't get a rash and enjoy! Good luck! S.
