I haven's drank and do not plan to...but...who drank wine while pregnant? My back is killing me and the thought of a glass of wine before bed sounds wonderful....

Also - who went to a tanning bed while pregnant? I am white and fat and ready for some color!!!!

Opinions?

What can I do next?

I had the occasional glass of wine throughout both my pregnancies and gave birth to two healthy nine pounders!!! Go for it..dont worry about alcohol fetal syndrome unless you know you have an alcohol problem.

I agree with everyone else on the occasional glass of wine past the first trimester. Most doctors will ok it. It was even suggested to me by my doctor in my 6th month of pregnancy to calm down my braxton hicks contractions. Just keep it small. :)

As for the tanning, Bobbi Brown has a great tanning lotion. It's not orange even on the fairest of skin tones nor does it streak. I used that one even when I'm not pregnant and love it. A lot of the girls that work at the counter use it so you can ask their opinion too.

Congrats on baby #2 and hang in there!

Lindee,
Hello! Congrats on baby #2! I never drank while pregnant. Most of the staff at my Dr's office did say that 1 drink would be ok, but I never really wanted to. I think I had read too many books that stated they are yet to determine the amount of alcohol can give fetal alcohol syndrome and so I didn't!! I'm a freak...I know!!!

As far as tanning goes, it's scientifically not dangerous for your baby (the actual tanning of the skin). The UV that is emitted from a tanning device only penetrates your dermis, epidermis and very little of the subcutaneous layers of your skin. It's scientifically impossible for the rays to reach any vital organs or your baby for that matter! The only reasons some salons won't allow it is b/c your are a liability (for their insurance) for them. ie if you slip and fall (from being sweaty or pass out from the heat) or if your body temperature gets too high you could have problems. The big concern for you would be that your core temp could rise or you could get blotchy skin! I got some blotchy spots from the good ol' sun during my 1st pregnancy! I tanned a couple of times w/my 2nd baby b/c I was in a wedding, but I only went for a few minutes at a time, and even then I was uncomfortable due to the heat! I prefer the creams! Go to a tanning salon and buy a good self tanner! They even have things now that can semi "erase" mistakes we make w/them!!

The whole thing about your body temp rising is the major concern! I highly doubt you'd go for 20 minutes...I am sure you are a responsible person and would go 3-4 minutes and work your way up to no more than 10 minutes! It's actually not true that every single salon would turn you away!! It varies, it's really based on their opinion, and if they are educated on the tanning process they would tell you the risks and so on!! Also, you can get just as much harm, as far as the heat goes, from being outside for prolonged periods of time in the natural sun! I think that some should know the facts before being so harsh or jumping down your throat!!

I used to own a few salons, and I have been spent countless hours at SmartTan certifications and many others! Although some frown upon indoor tanning, when it is done responsibly ,it can be great!!

Hope this helped!

Lindee,
Accept the fact you are white... I did a long time ago. Why take a chance for something to go wrong with your baby, why can't you wait 9 months, then let your body be yours again? I don't mean to sound so harsh, but come on, you are an adult and are responsible for your unborn child. What if your child was born with some problem and it was a result of your negligence... So your child has to suffer his/her life because you couldn't wait 9 month.
As for the wine, I'd wait, but a small glass once in awhile, maybe your case, once a month would be fine.
I don't mean to be hard, but come on, NO TANNING!
Congrats on baby #2!

I had maybe 2 glasses of red wine while pregnant. Like PP, i think it's ok if you have a glass and not very often.
Pregnancy changes skin sensitivities. I love Versa spa at Palm Beach Tan (wonderful fake tane, but doesn't look fake!!!)

Congrats on baby #2!!!

I drank a little red wine when I was pregnant but my Dr told me it was fine as long as I didn't do it every day. As for tanning, I don't tan in tanning beds but I would advise it, just ask your doctor they will tell you whether it is ok or not.

I had a small glass of red wine on special occasions while I was pregnant. My doc was ok with it. It was very rare and only very small glasses. I didn't tan at all. You should probably check with your doc before even trying the fake tan stuff. There can be some pretty harsh chemicals in those things. I know you feel white and fat, but I promise you - no one is looking at you thinking that. Pregnancy is beautiful. Save the tanning till after you give birth. It'll give you some great "me time" to look forward to when you really need it.

I would have a glass of wine on occassion. Just wait until the 1st trimester is over because that is when it is the most dangerous for the baby.

As for tanning, I would be concerned about a tanning bed as it is so concentrated. Its really getting nice, go outside relax and get your tan that way.

Don't do it...none of that is worth the health of your baby.

My daughter is 14 and my Dr. ok'd a glass of red wine occasionally, as long as it was kept to a minimum.

As for tanning, I had a bad allergic experience in a tanning bed WAY back when I was in my 20's and I won't gp near one ever again.

I do use the Jergens or Banana Boat lotions with tanning cremem in them right now to get a start on my color. After that, I will sit in the sun a little to soak up my good doses of vitamin D and get more color.

Don't forget to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!!

Congratulations on your new baby!

a glass of wine every once in awhile is okay, but NO tanning!! your body gets too hot, just like no HOT HOT showers & no jacuzzi's. : ) the tanning places won't let you tan if they know you are pregnant it's dangerous, but i second the "fake" tan & it's getting warm so sit outside & get some color

No drinking and No tanning. I think I've heard that spray on tanning is OK, but check with your OBGYN 1st.

Also, I've heard people say that a drink here or there is fine, but there is also NOT a proven link that excessive drinking causes Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. There have been numerous cases where the mother only had a few drinks during the course of the preg!

I'm 34 weeks and in the last three weeks I have had a small glass of wine probably three times. My doc said that a small glass in the evening every now and then was not a problem. A friend of mine who lived in Europe during her pregnancy brought me a book she bought in Europe that said two glasses an evening was fine. I'm not sure that I would have that much but I think a small glass of wine every now and then is probably good for you and the people around you :)

I did not drink while pregnant and would never recommend it. If you are in pain or discomfort use Tylenol, not alcohol to feel better. I don't know if tanning is harmful to your baby, but it is definetly harmful to you and your baby needs you for at least the next 18 years or so. Congratulations!!

My ob recommended a glass of wine and a walk to start labor - that was about the extent of it. Be aware that while you're pregnant, your skin can do some crazy things when you want it to tan - you can end up with melasma (a pregnancy mask), or white spots, all kinds of crazy colorings. Mix bronzer with your moisturizer and you'll have a little color without the potential patches.

I did the Mystic Tan while pregnant but I agree with other posts... I don't think the tanning salons would allow you to go in, it is a liability for them and dangerous.

I think wine is OK occasionally after the 3rd trimester. Every pregnancy is different with different risk factors and I would check with your Dr. What about a Tylenol PM before bed, I know that is safe.

Good Luck and Congrats!
