I was wondering if anyone had Dr. Sybul for there delivery. I have been going to him for my regular obgyn appointments and think he's fine (other than leaving me on hold on the phone one day for 30mins!) but my husband and I are trying to start a family and I'm not sure he's able to give me the attention I'm looking for. I also would like to consider using a midwife. Several of my friends rave about there obgyn's so I'm wondering if I should make a switch. Any information would be greatly appreciated. One last note, I really wanted to try the Women's Group at Northwestern, but they don't take my insurance! Thanks for you time!

I'm using the midwives at Illinois Masonic and I'm very happy with them. The problem with my regular gynecologist was that she was always busy and I always had to wait for appts. The midwives are much more likely to spend time with me and they have a birthing center at the hospital. Let me know if you want more info.

I would highly recommend my OB - Dr. Elizabeth Buscher of The Womens Practice. She and her partner, Merita Tan, are excellent. Their office is at 151 N. Huron, ###-###-####. I don't know what your insurance is, but hopefully they accept it. They are out of Northwestern.

Hi C.,
no matter what, you should feel comfortable with your ob/gyn. if you're not 100% sure i would definately switch. i have a female ob/gyn and absolutely don't want a male. i don't want a man being in control of my pain with birth. he has never been pregnant or given birth so he can never relate to it 100% but that's just my opinion.
I go the dr Rumsey at northwestern. i think she doesn't accept new patients right now because she is so busy but her female colleagues are great to.
good luck on your decision.

Reading your request really reminded me of my OBGYN. I just had my second son five months ago and had to use a new OB b/c the old practice (which I loved!) no longer accepted my insurance. I had the same problem... he had terrible bedside manner. I'm not sure if it's b/c this is the first male OB I've ever had but I found him not as supportive and attentive as my female OBs. Regardless, I stuck it out with him and during delivery, he really came through for me. He was great during delivery but I wished he was like that throughout my entire pregnancy. All in all, if you don't feel you're important to your doctor (putting you on hold for 30mins is ridiculous!), then you should switch. I think it was a total fluke my OB was as great as he was during delivery. Yours may or may not be.

I have friends who used midwives and had wonderful experiences through them. I was planning on using a midwife but my husband wasn't comfortable with the idea ( he comes from a family of doctors). Midwives are very supportive and will give you as much time as you need. They are with you for the entire delivery (whereas doctors come for the end). You may want to explore the midwife option if you have difficulty finding a good OB.

Hope this helps!

My friend raves about Dr. Sybul. She absolutely LOVES him. She had one baby and due very soon with #2. I can't remember if Sybul actually delivered her baby or if he was not available that day.

What is your issue why you don't like him? If you get a little more specific in your response to me, i could forward it to my friend and she could reply to you re: her delivery with him etc.

I, personally, go to Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation and my gyno is Dr. Gaston. My insurance isn't all that great and I guess one of the few Northwester Drs. that take it is the group of teaching Drs. I think the practice is excellent. Located in the main hospital and in the area where they do all sorts of medical studies etc. My Dr. was not on call the night I delivered, but I talked to him by phone before I delivered and the women that did deliver me was excellent. I do remember when I was in labor (contracitons) there were quite a few med. students coming into my room - I didn't mind too much - it is a teaching hospital afterall.

Hope it helps.

Dr. Barb Diakos is part of the NW Womens Center, but also uses St. Joe's. My sister in law's insurance doesn't cover NWMH but it does cover St. Joes. You can find Dr. Diakos' info in a referral I put in the shared directory. I can't say enough good things about her. She saved my life.

I use the Northwestern Physicians Group at 680 N. Lake Shore Drive. The phone is ###-###-####. My primary is Robbye McNair, but I've met most of the other doctors in the practice and they are all great. The office also has maybe 6 or 8 midwifes that you can chose from. The only problem I've found with them is that my insurance only covers lab work through a specific lab so I have to carry any labwork upstairs to the lab. Otherwise, the front office staff, nurses and doctors are great.

C.,
I see Dr Baum in the same group but he was out of town when I delivered and Dr Sibul was the ob on call. He was awesome! I wish Dr Baum was in town but I could not have been any happier with Dr Sibul!!! He totally knows what he is doing. I had a tough time pushing out my baby and eventually decided to use forceps. My baby had almost no marks on him at all. He really was great and I can't say enough good things about him. I took a photo with my baby after he delivered him and I sent him a copy with a thank you note. I would not switch!

I did not have him for delivery but I have been going to him for about 5 years now and think he is very good. But you are right he is always very busy, I would talk to him about it and get his take on the situation.

Hi C.,
Dr. Marc Sibul delivered my son and is my ob/gyne. He wasn't even on call the night I went into labor but he came to the hospital to deliver Logan. I honestly can't say enough great things about him. He is absolutely my favorite doctor. He also delivered my sister's kids.

Hi C.,
I was with an obgyn practice for much of my pregnancy last year, and switched to a midwife b/c I wanted more personal attention and a natural delivery. I am so happy that I did. My midwife (Kathy Puls in Evanston)was amazing and really took time to get to know me and what my feelings were about my labor. SHe respected my wishes for my labor, which made me feel more in charge of my health and my labor. I would also really recommend getting a doula for extra labor support.
