I had an unpleasant experience with Dr. Paul Mikel this week and would like to file a complaint against him. What is the best way to do this?

What can I do next?

Coming from an ex nurse, please think long & h*** o* whether the Dr truly deserves a complaint filed against him. The Dr I worked for paid $6,000 a MONTH for malpractice insurance alone & Drs are extremely stressed in the sad health care world we live in today. Without knowing what happened, could he have been having a bad day by chance?
Unless you truly believe another person could be in harms way, I agree w/ possibly just finding another Dr.
We are ALL going through a lot right now.
Take care,
S.

if the experience was just unpleasant say something to his staff but if the experience was down right wrong find numbers for medical boards and tell them about it

HI, M. -
I think complaints against doctors are filed with the Arizona Board of Medical Examiners. I think, though, that this sort of complaint is only for very serious matters. Negligence or some type of misconduct. Otherwise, probably best to let it go and find some other doctor. If you don't mind my asking, what happened?

I check for complaints with AZ State Board, and they are who you can file a complaint with. They investigate all complaints. Here's a link to their site, and it has a lot of other organizations listed:

http://www.azmd.gov/links/

Also, the American Medical Association has a lot of info on their site, and lots of info on where to direct different types of problems:

http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/physician-resources/medic...

And if you have health insurance, you could also contact them. I know 15 years ago they used to review and/or cancel their contracts with doctors depending on their record of complaints.

Hi M.~
I know this is a few days old, but I just had a chance to read it. I also had Dr. Mikel as my Dr. for my last pregnancy, and my sister just had her baby 2 weeks ago with him. I'm not sure what happened with you, but I can tell you, he is not someone I would choose to have again as my Dr. and I would not recommend him to anyone. Our first meeting with him was wonderful. But every appointment afterwards was just quick, in & out, didn't really care to listen to anything I had to say, and extremely impersonal. I had already switched Dr.'s once, and didn't see Dr. Mikel till my 6th month of pregnancy. Otherwise I probably would've found another Dr. When my sister had her baby 2 weeks ago, I was in there, and he never once said hello, or even looked as if he recognized me. He did not tell my sister Congratulations, or anything to that effect, once her baby had arrived. I hope nothing worse than anything similar to this happened to you. But I would defiantely file a complaint against him if you feel you were treated wrongly. Best wishes!!
~K.~
