Double Stroller Recommendations - South Elgin,IL

Help, my daughter is 2 and I'm expecting our second child (probably before) 8/12/09. I've been hunting for a good double stroller and cannot seem to find one I like. I hate my current stroller because it has a tiney basket and cannot hold anything. We were given a Jeep double stroller from our neighbor, but I found it impossible to steer with only my daughter in it. My husband claims that I'm being too picky, but this is an important decision/purchase.

I'm looking for a reasonably priced double stroller with plenty of basket/storage space and trays/areas for snacks and cups for both the parent and the child.

I've used the Graco DuoGlider for 2 years now. It has a TON of storage underneath the seats -- I can't believe how much stuff I'm able to haul around. Plus, a Graco brand infant carrier can snap right into it, so you can easily transfer a sleeping baby from car seat to stroller, without having to unbuckle and pull-out the baby. This was really important to me when I was picking a double stroller. Finally, I went with the seats in front of each other -- I didn't like the side-by-sides.

I used the sit and stand stroller because the older one can stand or sit and it has straps for both! If you are interested it is 2 years old and barely used. I paid $150 for it, but would sell it for much less. You can e-mail me at ____@____.com

The Sit and Stand stroller is awesome! My girlfriend has one for her 5 yr and now 2 yr old. You can put the infant car seat in the front (it comes w/ attachments) while the older one can either sit or stand in the back. We found one at a garage sale for $25.00. Once Upon a Child in Streamwood has had them for $60.00. I think they retail for $125.00 or so. I'm expecting my 2nd in November and my older will 23mnths then. He loves it now! We take walks and he loves to stand or sit in the back.

I also LOVE our sit n stand stroller. It is light weight and very easy to control. I still use it with my 4 and 6 year old boys. The storage basket is decent too. These strollers are even able to hold infant carriers. I had the standard double stroller when my second was first born and I could barely push that thing around. It was Awful. I highly recommend the sit n stand strollers.

Good luck!!

I would suggest assessing the double you have and purchasing a 2nd to compliment it. I have 2 doubles because we live "in-town" and do a lot of walking, but then have a 2nd for pretty much anything we have to drive to.

For the walking we use a babytrend double jogger from babies r us (what I call the double-wide style where they're side by side). It was about $190. I like it a lot, plenty of storage room, but it is awkward to fold for travelling. You would need a minivan or SUV with an empty trunk. The double-wide, with its bike wheels, is SO much easier to push the same amount of weight.

For things where a double-deep (one in front of the other) would be more useful such as the mall or going thru any sort of standard doorway, I have the Joovy Caboose. It's easy to fold and economical. The parent organizer is $25 but the stroller was only $150 so I didn't mind. The fault is that it's not so easy to get to that storage under the seat. To a lesser extent there is only one seat, the older kid sits on a bench by your handlebars, but that was truly not a problem for me (my oldest was 3 when my 2nd was born).

Hope the info was helpful! Enjoy your two little ones!!! :)

OMG did I spend the time looking into double strollers. I finally purchased the Peg Perego Twin Aria. Namely because it's super light (like 12 pounds I want to say), folds completely flat very easily and it can be steered and opened with 1 hand if need be. Has good sun shades, big basket and came in nice color options. I totally love it and am so glad it's the one I finally chose.

This is what you have to consider:
* how lbs are you willing/able to lift every single time you need to get the stroller in/out of the car?
* how much trunk space do you need after the stroller is in the car?
* how much are you willing to pay?
* can you buy/order it from somewhere with a discount?

I would highly recommend the Joovy. I bought it at Buy Buy Baby and it was worth every penny. I wasn't going to get a double stroller because my older son is 3 and hasn't sat in stroller since he was 2. Needless to say after the baby came he wanted to sit in the stroller too. He loves this stroller and is excited to sit and stand in it. I would recommend buy the more expensive version because it handles amazingly, the less expensive version was alot more difficult to push (it is 15 lbs heavier and it really made a difference).

I have a two year and this summer I watched my nephew for two weeks when he was 4 months old, so I barrowed a friends double jogger. It was a yellow schwinn and it was wonderful!! It pushed very easily and smoothly, even with one hand! I also thought it had a lot of room to bug a bag underneather and zippered pockets on the back of the seats. The only negative would be that there were no cup holders, but I think you can purchase those. It was an awesome stroller!!

I have three girls ages 6, almost 3, and 8 months. When I was pregnant with my second I bought the bumbleride queenbee with the toddler seat attachment. This stroller is my favorite for walking outdoors; it's easy to push and has lots of storage below. The only cons of this stroller is that it is bulky/heavy and no cup holders. However, you can easily take the seat off the chasis to make it easier to put in your trunk. Also, you can easily push it with one hand while holding your coffee with the other!

When I was pregnant with my third, I bought the kolcraft countours options, because I wanted one that accommodated my infant carrier (the b-ride doesn't). It is easy to push, has ample storage space, and cup holders. I loved this stroller when it was holiday shopping time, because I could pack a ton of stuff below! Also, the seats are cozy and my two year old took many naps during those shopping trips.

My third double was purchased in April for a Disney trip. It's a combi side by side, and this was chided for its compact and lightweight features for travel. I also love this stroller.

I am going to sale the contours now that my little one is out of the infant carrier; I have been using the other two strollers and it just sits. If you are interested, call me at ###-###-####. It was primarily used for indoors, because my baby was born at the end of October.

I hope this helps, because I too have lamented over the stroller purchases!

This is just a suggestion -- but have you considered using a sling of some kind for the new baby while keeping your 2 year old in whatever single stroller you have? Later on you can buy a standing board for your older child to ride on the stroller while your younger sits (they sell universal ones at onestepahead.com). I never found a double stroller that worked for me -- they were all too huge to manage in any inside place. Also, whatever my older child liked, my younger couldn't stand (with everything -- not just strollers).

Good luck!

We have the Contours Options double stroller ($220 a BRU), and it's fantastic. It's big and heavy (50 pounds), but you can use an infant seat with it, turn the seats every which way, fit into doors and store aisles.

I used the Graco duo glider when they were small. As they got bigger/heavier I moved to a side-by-side jogger. I loved them both. My 4 year old is now too tall for either, so we have moved back into our Graco single!

JOOVY CABOOSE! My daughter is 2 years older than her brother and we love it - she can sit in the back on the little sliding seat, or stand on the little board. It comes with a little neoprene cup holder for us and a tray in the front, and lots of storage underneath. Worth every penny. We got ours used - try Craig's List.

My boys who are now 6 and 3, acutally still fit in my double stroller....it is the graco duo glider. It meets all your requests and then some. One thing that I love about mine is the large basket on the bottom. I also love the front seat canopy(both seats have one)...because it can be tilted all the way forward to block the wind and sun from the front if the child in that seat is sleeping. Some people might say it is too bulky etc...however to get all the bonus features you have to expect it to weigh a little. I can totally fold it up and down easily and put it in and out of car, train, plane without help. By the way, it is a front to back which is nice and easy to get through doors and stores etc. I know some people have suggested the side by side, but I have heard alot of people complain about the difficulty of being inside places with it(maneuverability). I found my stroller on the internet. I cannot remember the site but it had free shipping on the stroller which was nice. It was a baby/parent site. Good luck!

I have b/g twins who just turned 3 and anewborn. I tried every double stroller out there! The graco tandom was great w/ the newborns because the infant seats snapped right in. As they got older it got heavy and they fought over the seats.i have a baby trends double jogger and the front wheel swivels. I love it. I have tried the new graco quatro and the front seat just did not seem comfortable. I tried the red contour convertable stroller you can use alot of diffeerent ways and it was bulky and a pain when your in a hurry.i used my graco duo glider til last summer and bought the jogger. It was a little long and a little bulky but it worked.i wanted the eddie baur double where the kids could face eachother but never tried it.

First of all, after extensive research, I think all double strollers are heavy and bulky and do not have enough storage!
I do recommend the sit n stand deluxe double by baby trend. The new version has trays for both seats and fits most car seats. When your oldest is older, the back seat converts to a bench so they can hop in and out easily.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Graco Quattro. It's so easy to steer. I don't think it's that heavy, I was able to lift it at 9 months pregnant. It has lots of storage and cupholders for all. I know it's expensive, but I found this website, www.albeebaby.com, where I got it for $100 less than in the stores! And free shipping!

We had twins, and loved the Graco Duo Rider. This is a side-by-side double stroller, which fit through almost every door (I think in four years I only found one it wouldn't go through.)

Both seats recline all the way, great for sleeping and napping. There are huge baskets under each seat -- I could do all my grocery shopping and put it in there! It was very easy to open and close, and stored flat. It had a nice shade top that folded back, so you could choose whether to use it or not. My kids loved it! And at $125 it was really a bargain.

Mind you, this was 8 years ago that we bought our first one (and when that one wore out we got another one two years later) and so models may have changed. Check it out.
Stroller safety was important to us, so we looked at Consumer Reports. We had no problems with the Graco Duo Rider, and loved it. I hope you find something you like. Good luck!

I just bought a Mountain Buggy double for my not yet here daughter and 2 yo son. They are on sale now at a lot of places, and you can find them for good prices on Craigslist all the time :) The cup holder that comes on it is great for a water bottle, but not so much for a cup, but cup holders are easy to add to almost any stroller, so I wouldn't worry as much about that.

If you can find a good deal on one, we LOVE our Mountain Buggy. They are pricey, but I found ours on Ebay so got a better deal. Of course, it depends on what you are looking for. This stroller is not light or compact, but it does fit through exterior doors, a it is so easy to navigate...it's easier than my single stroller. We go for a lot of walks and I take it with when we go shopping and what not, but like I said, it's not compact. We have an SUV and it takes up most of the trunk space. Hope this helps!

I just bought the Contour Options. Tons of storage space, and the thing I liked the most is that the infant is in the back, closest to me so I can reach him when pushing. It has a car set adapter that fits most car seats, I have the Graco Snug Ride. I got it at Babies R Us, and used my 20% off coupon. It is bulky and a little on the heavy side, but all worth it to me.

I'm due the 16th of August!!! My son will be 22mo old, too.
The double stroller we bought is the Bumbleride Indie Twin.
Here's a video:
http://www.babygizmo.com/media/video_bumblerideindietwin2...

I did a lot of research, too. Trust me. I found this one on a Mamasource message board too. It does accomodate an infant carrier. I was undecided between this one and the B.O.B Revolution Duallie. I didn't like the fact that my son would be leaning too far back in the B.O.B stroller. The Bumbleride he doesn't.

I hope once you see the video it'll help you make a better decision.

Good luck and congratulations!!!

I just recently found a double stroller that was made by Graco, is a Tandem stroller. I have a 2 year old and recently had a baby (four days old). I chose this brand because of the car seat that I purchased. I wanted a carseat that would attach to a double stroller. Of course the car seat is an additional purchase. It appears to steer okay, haven't really tested it on the streets, just around the yard, house and in the store. It was reasonble price $159.00 at Target. I looked for weeks before finding this one. Babies R Us have many, but I thought they were over priced. The one I found at Target was at Baby R Us for $199.00, Baby Depot at Burlington have a few varieties of double strollers. I too searched for a month before finding the right car seat and double stroller, my husband thought I was making to big of a deal about a car seat and double stroller. It's a big decision to me as well, hope this is helpful.

Eventually, your older child won't want to be in the stroller all the time. We got a Baby Trend Sit and Stand Plus. The Plus version comes with a back seat which can be removed to become a sit and stand. The latest model (brand new) allows you to put the baby carrier in either seat.

Basket is HUGE, but a little difficult to get to, but you can unsnap one of the supports to get to stuff. Parent tray is nothing special, but it has 2 drink holders and a small compartment for sunglasses and such. Snack tray and drink holder for both kids. Latest model has more leg room for back seat.

They have this stroller (or older version that I have)at Target where you can look at it, but the best price including free shipping is on Amazon. And the great thing, I got it within a few days of ordering!

Graco makes a duo glider that I found to be functional and pretty easy to use. I searched for used on craig's list, but ended up finding a new one at Target on clearance for $110.00.

Good luck and best wishes with new baby.
