Infant Double Stroller Advice - Naperville, IL

I have an almost 3 year old son and a baby due early next year and am looking for double stroller suggestions. I am not a big fan of the side-by-side models, so I think I'd be looking more for tandem suggestions, but any advice would be great on either. I have a Graco infant car seat that I would like to be able to use in the double stroller as well as have good under the stroller storage. Also, I'd like some opinions on the sit and stand models. Thanks!

I used the Graco when my kids were in their carseats, very convenient! However once they were out of the infant seat I switched to a Baby Jogger. The Graco is not the easiest to manuver when you have 2 children, it's not awful...the baby jogger is so easy though!! The front wheels rotate with ease, you can swivel the entire thing around to change directions, rotating canopy, big basket. I just love it. BTW, I have the Graco in Metro(i think)...black with silver color piping and I'm putting it ebay if you have any interest, let me know!

We have the Phil and Teds, and its nice, but has many drawbacks. My daughter is almost 3 and son is 9 months. The issue is getting them in and out. The heavier one always has to go in first (in the front) and then the baby. Then if the baby falls asleep and the older one want to get out (like at the park or at the mall) she can't because the stroller will tip. Not very convenient.

Hello - we've had 7 strollers single & double now! My girls are 3 years apart so we had the same quandary. We initially purchased the Joovy Caboose b/c it held the baby seat. Plus: It was cheaper and 10 lbs lighter than the Graco. You can get the fancier Caboose that is supposedly really light. If you get the Caboose the parent organizer is expensive ($25) but well worth it. Minus: not a lot of easily accessible storage. also just a bench for the big kid, not good if they still want to nap (mine didn't so that flew OK w/me). That was great for the first year. However, we really haven't used it now. That's because generally I make my now 4 year old walk. I either take my MacLaren (super small & light) or my 1-baby "full feature" stroller is the Peg Perego Pliko (sp?) P3 which has a ledge that my older one can stand on if she's tired. That was a nice feature I didn't find out about until years after I had it!

We live "in-town" so we do a lot of walking to library, store, etc and so for that we got the Baby Trend double jogger. I can't express the amazing difference in how much easier that is to push than the Caboose, with the same 2 kids inside. I think it's the physics of disbersing the weight but I'm no scientist! However, if you're only getting one stroller this double jogger is incredibly cumbersome to try to load into our SUV trunk. We really do that only once or twice a year.

D.,

You can test-drive my Graco Quattro Tour Duo next time I see you. The only draw-back is that once the baby in the front seat gets heavier than 40 pounds (the front seat goes to 50 pounds) it gets really hard to steer. It really does fit the Graco infant seat perfectly and it literally snaps into place. Supposedly, it is one of the lighter double strollers in terms of weight. Although, it is pretty heavy once you try to throw it into the back of the SUV. I still like mine though. Take him to Babies R Us or Buy Buy Baby with you and test-drive some models to make sure that you like the ride for him. Some models didn't fit my older one well because she is so tall.

I have the Mia Moda Compango. It is wonderful! It has great storage and works perfectly for my 4 year old and 3 month old children. It has a universal infant seat adapter as well that comes with it.

Check out Phil and Ted's sport stroller. It is a single, and you buy a jump seat to make it a double. I think it is a great stroller.

Dear D.

I have a sit-stand model stroller which works great as long as the trips I use it for are relatively short. There is no where to put a car seat and if the kids are tired they cannot rest comfortably.

I have the Baby Trend Sit N Stand Plus. It has a 2nd back seat that is removable (easy easy removable) and converts into a sit n stand if your older kiddo doesn't want to sit in a stroller seat. We love it. My kiddos are 2 yrs (25 mos) and 9 mos. We haven't taken the back seat off yet but it will likely be soon as she sometimes asks to get out when we are on walks. It folds up easily and is about the same size folded up as my Graco single stroller that came with a travel system. My Graco SnugRide Infant seat fits too. It isn't perfect (though I think no stroller is) -- it is pretty long and heavy but it is a smooth ride for the kiddos and works well for us! Good luck!

I have the Graco Quattro double and LOVE it! I have a 3y.o. and a 4 month old. There is ample storage, easy to push and turn and it folds up just a bit bigger than the single. Yes, it is a big stroller and people will tell you that a 3 y.o. shouldn't be in a stroller. However, when I'm at the mall I like my son to be in the stroller when I'm shopping and he cannot make it through the entire zoo all day yet. I like having the option to give him a real seat. And what I like about this stroller is that there is not a bar across the front seat so he can get in and out on his own (but I can still buckle him in when needed!). I did consider the sit-n-stand, but it felt flimsy and the basket is small and impossible to get to.

One more thing, I found my stroller online at www.albeebaby.com. because it was an older fabric design, I got it for $100 less than the in store price and free shipping! A brand new stroller! Can't beat it. Good Luck with your decision!

I have a Baby Trend Sit'n'Stand stroller that has worked well to take the kids for walk etc. I have a 2.5 yr old and a newborn. My Graco carseat also fits right in the front too. It maneuvers pretty easily around corners on sidewalks. The only downfall is that when it is folded, it will not stand freely like my Graco, it needs to lean on something.
