Double Stroller - Garfield,NJ

I am pregnant and due in late October. I have a 16 month old toddler. We are looking for a stroller for both babies. I would like to have something that allows them to sit side by side as I do not like the front/back strollers. I would also like something that would enable the use of a infant seat and then can convert, just as a single stroller would.

We looked at the Peg Perego but is very expensive..any suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all of your responses!! I really appreciate it all...

I have an Eddie Bauer infant seat which we recceived as a the full travel system.

I wanted the side by side becuase I didn't like any of the strollers that were front and back and I didn't know how my 16month old would like it. I am thinking maybe I should go store to store and try them out with him??

This is a very popular topic right now! :-)

When we were shopping for a double stroller, I stopped every Mom I saw with a double stroller and asked if I could touch it and feel it and asked them their thoughts on it. In general, the Gracos all got poor rratings from Moms who were actively using it.

We settled on a Combi. I LOVE IT! It folds over twice. Fits comfortably in the back of our Honda Pilot. Is easy to lift and load. It fits in most standard doorways and I've never had trouble with it when out and about. The baskets underneath have been adequate. The nice part was that is wasn't as expensive as some other models we were recommended to try.

My one concern was how the infant seat would fit. I did not want to purchase a "special" infant carrier. We used our Graco snug and ride with it by positioning one foot in the cup holder on the right (or outer side), resting the otherside across the lap strap and then purchasing an inexpensive clipping strap at a hardware store. This we laced through the strollers framing and across the top of the carrier. If you look at any of the other systems out there, they worked essentially the same way - primarily held down/in place with a strap. I felt confident that my little guy was safe and secure.

I would probably recommending doing the same thing - look at a few options/choices that you like, examine them in the stores, take your carrier (if available) with you to try in it and then ask every Mom you see with a double stroller! Most Moms were more than happy to talk about pros and cons.

Good Luck!

Check out one by Combi. They are much less expensive, but lightweight and easy to maneuver. We used one for our girls and they were 2.5 years apart in age. It was narrow enough to fit through most doorways, so really easy to use at malls, etc... It just wasn't great on bumpy sidewalks. Double joggers would be the way to go if you are doing more outdoor walking. I believe the BOB has a double that can be used with a carseat. All in all, though, both girls were very comfy in the Combi side by side. Congratulations!

What kind of car seat do you have? We just bought a Combi Sport Twin for our toddler (he will be 19-months old when this baby is born), and it is very nice, light-weight, side-by-side, folds easily, and runs about $220 (you might be able to find one on Craigslist for less). Although our Graco car seat does not "snap in," as it does on our Graco stroller, it fits very securely in seat. I am the sort of person who doesn't like to trust that sort of thing, but it really is very secure and snug in the seat, and if you were worried, would be easy enough to strap in. The seats have a great recline, as well. I would at least look into it - Babies R Us carries them (as does Amazon.com). Good luck.

Hi go with the MacLaren. My sister used it for her twins. They're light and easy to carry on planes, trains, cars etc. Good luck

I know you think you want a side by side stroller, but you don't!!! We tried one for a very short time before giving it to goodwill. It was incredibly awkward to steer and couldn't fit through most doors (including our own- without collapsing it down a lit bit to slide it through). I highly suggest the Phil and Teds Sport. I initially didn't like the thought of my son sitting under my daughter and staring at the back of the stroller, but he loves it. It's like a little cocoon and allows the little one to not get overstimulated as they would in a side by side. Also, the Phil and Teds has the ability to be set up as a bassinet and toddler seat combo when #2 is a newborn. It is a little pricey, but you can find brand new ones on Ebay for much less. I feel it is worth the money to buy the right one now, rather than spend just as much money in the long run because you have to change strollers (just as my girlfriend did when she bought a cheaper, less practical double stroller and then replaced it weeks later with a different style). It is just as easy to steer as a single stroller and very easy to break down. Please go check them out and push them yourself before choosing a side by side- you'll see what I mean!!!

I can't recommend my mountain buggy urban double enough! it holds more weight and height than any other the others we looked at, and you can even put a bassinet in one side for the new baby.

The BOB duallie is AWESOME and worth every penny! If you're quick, you can snag them on craigslist a lot, but they go fast. They also make an adapter kit for carseats. We have used our so much and gotten so much pleasure from it the last 2 years. They ROCK! Look at REI -they sell everything -the stroller, the adapter kit and other little things to put on it if you want.
