Double Stroller - New London,CT

Hi Moms, I am expecting a baby in November and my first born will be two and half. I have the snug ride infant carseat for the car and I have a question about what double stroller we should purchase. Would you recomend that I get the Graco double stroller that accomodates the carseat (although I would really like a stroller with single wheels) or should I get something else like the BOB? If you were in my same sitation what did you purchase and what worked best for you? What stroller do you recommend for a newborn and toddler? Thank you so much in advance for your help.

My sister has her first two children almost two years apart. She suggested a tandum stoller with the older child in from to keep stimulated from everything going by the front of the stoller. She said it fits in doors and between aisles in stores better as well.

hi L.- congrats on the new baby!
we have the BOB - there is a converter bar that adapts the infant car seat (my friend used this - it also provides a cup holder area for the toddler) - I did not get this and began using it with my newborn after a few months -
in the early weeks/months i wore the baby and had my 3 year old son in the stroller or walking...or used the snap n go for the carseat
i love the BOB of all the strollers i have had (Chariot/Maclaren/In Step/Snap and Go) it is great.
good luck and have fun!

I purchased the urban mountain buggy with the graco attachment. It is a very heavy stroller but is all terrain and great for walking to beach, playground etc. For another option is the Joovy Caboose for less all terrain.

We bought a baby trend sit and stand. The back has a seat that can accommodate a car seat, hold a sitting/sleeping child, or the seat comes out to use the sit and stand bench option. There are a couple models, we bought ours at Target for our 16 month old and 6 week old. It works well. There is a big storage area under the seats. We do have the baby trend travel system, but the graco should fit fine.

Hi L.-
My only advice is to look at what your needs and wants are in your double stroller. If you are looking for something for everyday, the Graco is great; but if you are into running/walking outside (alot)the BOB is wonderful. I would go to a place like Babies R Us and try them out. Test the way they move around stores, fold and how your 2 and half fits. I got a BOB and I love it. The only down fall I found in my BOB (double wide) stroller is there are some places a double wide just is hard to get through (ie the lines at airports, department stores...)

Happy shopping!!

We LOVED our Sit 'n Stand stroller. You can get one to accommodate an infant seat and the back seat was great for our toddler. Good luck with number two! Have fun with them!

Like another mom stated below: it really depends on how you use it. The sales people at Tiny Totland in Manchester helped me (9 years ago now-time flies) when I came to choose a stroller. Since we live near a dirt road that I walk a lot, the InStep double jogger is what I needed to go over the rough surface. For the mall I bought a lightweight side-by-side Graco that was great. I kept the Graco in my trunk and the InStep in the garage. I did not bother with a baby carrier but simply strapped my infant into the seat. They sell padded seat inserts that I used to make the seat softer. The advantage of a side-by-side is that both seats fully recline and my oldest was still napping during long afternoon walks. In a front-to-back only the rear fully reclines and the length makes it difficult to maneuver. The width of both side-by-sides (Graco and InStep) was small enough to fit through any door in all the years I used them. Plus the side-by-side has a huge basket underneath. Congratulations and enjoy these years- they go so fast.

Hi L.,
My boys are 22 mos apart and we use the Baby Trend Sit N Stand. It's perfect for walking to the playground and going to the mall. Very easy to get in and out of the trunk of our car. My older child does not usually like to sit so it has been perfect for us. The little sitting platform in the back for him is pretty small and awkward when the car seat is in the front b/c the front seat needs to be reclined. It goes on sale a lot too.

hi L., I have a 2 yr. old and a 3 1/3 mo. old and we purchased a double BOB and LOVE it!!! It is so well built and just as nice to push as the single! We went back and forth on what to buy, and in the end realized that I use the stroller mostly for walks around the neighborhood- and I used my BOB single more than any of the other strollers we have. When I go to the store I often have my 2 year old walking by my side or in a grocery cart, so I don't take a stroller to the store very often. We ended up getting a Graco double from a garage sale for like $35 and have used it a couple of times...(to go to the zoo, for example).

I agree with those who said you won't really use it until next spring anyway and at that point the baby will be big enough to go in it.

good luck!

At 2.5 she's probably going to want to do more walking then riding so you should opt for something like a sit and stand or one of those boards that attach to strollers.
Edited: keep in mind that most of these strollers only hold a max of 40lbs a child which depending on the size of your 2.5 year old they could be cutting it close to that I know my oldest weighed almost 40 at that age while my youngest is a peanut the maclaren strollers have the highest weight limit that I've seen 55lbs a child and both sides recline so are safe for newborn with the 5 point buckle unlike most w/ a 3 point buckle.
