Double Bed Mattress Protector

First of all clean the mattress (on a sunny day as to dry completely) use a bucket and enzyme cleaner (this can be found in PetSmart, WalMart) generally in the area of rug cleaners comes in a spray or a larger size.....Follow directions, then let dry in the sun. Double beds waterproof covers are hard & expensive. Scotchguard the heck out of the mattress after it has dried. Then, go to your local Lowes, WalMart and look for a large "tarp" that you can tuck in around the corners, or I would even try a canvas "tarp" and scotchguard it - generously, (let dry and repeat). I like the idea of the canvas because it won't "crinkle" or make him warm during the night. You can also use the pampers or others that make "big boy" pants just for those in between times. Cut off all liquid 2 hours before bed, have him sit on potty even if he says he doesn't need to and let water flow gently in sink. If he needs a drink, sips or ice chips to melt in mouth only. Scotchguard is a wonderful product and the generics work just as well, I still use them on my car seats and my husbands, and on white dresses, or special occasion dresses. My friends have loved this idea. No more little missed stains that show up a few months later....Good Luck! I'd also let him put swim goggles on, and a little paper mask (97 cents) at WalMart, or Lowes, etc. and have him "do" the application-sometimes being a part of something feels like he is in "control" instead of being treated like a "baby". (You can always re-do when he's playing at a neighbors or at school...). I have found that letting kids take control of some things helps them to "buy" into it. All my children eat various foods, they have cooked once a week since they were two. (with my help!) Pot pies made w/premade pie shells & leftovers, "Dips" for raw or blanched veggies (each one loves vegetables) they made all kinds of dips and I bought the small containers from a supply store so they sometimes had 6 each to choose from- but veggies got eaten...mayo & ketchup mixed are quite different to a childs eyes....mustard and honey (yes, you can buy it but them "making" it makes it special)....Getting back to your son-I'd call it "the plan" and sit down and write down what you'll need, help him measure his bed - plus down the sides to "tuck it in"; etc. He'll be thrilled-not embarressed....Have fun-one little lesson....

My son has bunk beds and sleeps on the bottom which is a double size mattress. I found a fitted sheet (has plastic on bottom and cloth on top) for his bed at Kmart. It doesn't make any noise and so far we have had it for over a year and it's still in good condition.

Check out Amazon.com or Ebay. You can pretty much find anything you need on those two sites.
Also, I am not sure but is double the same size as full size? If so, I think would will have better luck putting full size in your search than double.

I have waterproof mattress covers on all my beds. (You never know when a sleepy child is going to enter your bed). I bought them all at Target. They can be washed, but shouldn't be dried on high heat (if I am remembering correctly). They do not make any sound under the sheets. They are very similar to the crib mattress covers, but for larger beds. My daughters have tested them several times. Other than the fact that you have to wash them & dry them naturally (they dry pretty fast) when there is an accident/do wash, I did not have a problem with things soaking through to the mattress. I was very surprised how well it was protected.

I found an inexpensive fitted waterproof sheet at Bed Bath & Beyond for a full size bed. I think that is close in size if not the same as a double bed. I bought 2 at the time because I was having the same trouble with finding a reasonably priced protective sheet for his bed. Good luck.

I have a fitted mattress pad that has a plastic liner.
I may have purchased it at Tuesday Morning, or Big Lots.
I would check at the big super stores like Walmart, Meijer, etc, or their online sites too.
If you got two of these, you could switch out to wash one, whenever he wets.

We bought a large sheet of plastic from Wal-Mart or a farm supply place, like for a vinyl table cloth. It's on a roll and they cut it to your specified length. It is often used to cover a nice tablecloth and protect it from stains. It's very thick and tear resistant. If it gets peed on then you just wipe it down with a disinfectant spray like Clorox Clean Up or Lysol Spray.

You could always use a large vinyl table cloth too, it might be less expensive too. It will be thinner and more likely to be eventually replaced. They can be put in the washing machine and even dried on low heat for a few minutes then hung between a couple of chairs to finish drying.

I use a cheap shower curtain liner under my kids' mattress pads when they are still wetting. You may need 2 or could have it going across the width to cover the whole bed.

I found one on Overstock.com that had good reviews. It seems fine though my daughter hasn't had any night accidents to test it. It was around $25, I think and shipping is $2.69 on everything there. The one I decided on is waterproof but has cloth top so it's supposed to be less crinkly under the sheet.

I just purchased a waterproof mattress pad at target for my son and it is the restyle brand. Although I bought a twin size, I do believe they also have them in double and queen sizes. This is the second one I bought and they work great!

I got ours at Target a few years ago. It's plastic with a thin layer of fabric on top so it doesn't feel strange. It was made to be a waterproof pad, but you may also want to look for ones that are for people with allergies and made to keep out dust mites because I think they are basically the same. I think we paid about $15. It is a problem to put them in the dryer like the other poster said but I think you could put it in for a little bit and then let it finish by air drying. I forgot to do that with ours and the edges got a bit "crispy" but it still fits fine.
