In response, I am going to breastfeed my child just donate some too. The breast work on supply and demand.

You can "google" breast milk banks for specifics. if the hospital you deliver in has NICU you probably can donate there.

the best place to donate breastmilk to a family with a needy baby is throw milkshare.com here is the form list http://milkshare.forumotion.com/ it goes by state... i have donated throw out the years with my 3 babies... but most of these families can't afford the $$ of breastmilk from a bank... at around $5 an oz... i couldn't as well... I wont donate to a milk bank as they just turn aroudn and sale my donated milk... Thats way i am a big suppoert of milksahre... I get to meet and talk to the families and i have been able to add alot of the families as friends on facebook and i get to watch the babies grow... theres a big need for breastmilk but theres not alot of moms donating... good luck

I don't have any additional info for you, I just wanted to say Kudos! to you. Donating breast milk is a wonderful and giving thing to do. I wish I could, but I've got to take certain meds and they won't take mine. Good for you!

I just donated 150 ounces and its truly a wonderful experience and a great thing to do. Call the National Milk Bank @ 1-866-522-6455, its a toll-free call. You have to answer a questionnaire, go for blood work, which doesnt cost you anything, and get consent forms signed by your doctor and your pediatrician. The consent forms just say that you and your baby are healthy.
The milk bank sends you a double electric pump and all the bottles you need for storage. Once you have enough bottles filled and frozen they send you a cooler for you to fedex back to them.
I will say I didnt like the electric pump. I continued to use my Avent Isis and I just poured my collected milk into the milk bank bottles and froze them.
If you are producing enough milk for your baby and you have extra to spare, I would totally recommend donating!

i breast feed my son for 13 months but i didnt put him to my boob i pumped. i produced so much milk that i filled 3 groccy bags and wanted to donate. well the closest place to donate is in maryland. you have to take a bunch of tests to do this. i thought that you could donate at any hospital but i was wrong. im not sure but i think you have to pay for shipping ? i hope that this helped you a little. i googgled it that would be your best bet im sure things have changed in 2the past two years. good luck to you.

If you'd like to donate your excess breastmilk I'd suggest you consider the Human Milk Banking Association of North America as your recepient. You could talk with someone from one of the milk banks nearest you to set this up. They have a website where you could get basic information, as well: www.hmbana.org. This association is non profit.

It is admirable that you wish to become a milk donor as donor milk is so needed. I'm sure you're aware that first and foremost, your own baby needs your milk thus establishing your supply for her/him should be done exclusively for the first few weeks before you begin to pump to donate. If you have an overly abundant milk supply in those first weeks and do pump to enable better breastfeeding (engorgement, oversupply) for your baby, then you could donate that milk. You can obtain more info from the nearest milk bank when you call.

Best wishes for a safe and happy birth and happy breastfeeding!

Just a quick question. Why would you want to donate your milk? Why will you not breast feed? Breast milk is the best for your baby.

Go to milkbanking.net and from there you can search for the one closest to you. You have to get tests done, but there is no expense to you and they give you an electric pump(at least the one by me does). I am also in the process of becoming a milk doner, I think its a wonderful thing to do. They do suggest you first establish breastfeeding with your child before donating, usually about 4 weeks is their suggestion. Good Luck!
