Glad that previous posters have clarified the "locks for love" myth. Contrary to what most people think it does NOT go to cancer patients. Additionally most of what they collect they SELL -it is not donated. Unfortunately it seems that everyone who wants to donate hair gives it to this organization believeing they are helping those with cancer.

Pantene Beautiful Lengths does this. Locks of Love is not for cancer. Here are the Pantene requirements and more info:

And you don't have to go anywhere, you just send it in the mail. Easy peasy!

Here is some info I found.http://www.locksoflove.org/donate.html

I see they only accept hair that is at least 10 inches long.

Why not call your regular salon and ask if they participate?

Or the salon nearest you.

:)

you can donate directly to Locks for Love. Need 10 inches (consider waiting a few more months?? :0)) Have your salon put your hair in ponytails (we usually do several small ones) and then just put it in a ziplock to keep it nice. You can mail directly to locks for love. I have donated 2 times and will have enough to cut again early next year!

Call around to different salons and shops in your area. A lot of them participate in Locks of Love for cancer patients.

Call Locks of Love. I am sure they would know where to send you and the patients would be thankful to you.

Okay, here's what I found on Locks of Love:

"Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis... Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure."

So, the way I read that is that they DO give to cancer patients, but the majority of their hair pieces go to children with alopecia.

You guys do know locks for love does not go to cancer patients, it goes to little girls with alopecia. I am in the sloooowwww process of growing my hair out to donate to them. At the moment I could take off 12 inches (the minimum is 10) but since my hair is curly I thought 14 would be better.

Oh, and locks for love, you just braid it, band both ends and your stylist clips the braid off. They have a mailing address you send it to.

When we lived in Gilbert, the Fantastic Sam's would cut for free if it was being donated. Your donation must be 10 inches or more for Locks of Love, or 8 inches for Pantene Beautiful Lengths. We have donated many times to both, and they both have their own requirements for donations. Check them out online before you get it cut. You can get it cut anywhere, and just mail it in but a FREE haircut always sounds nice, right?

I donated a few years back. The stylist had to put it in a ponytail and cut the ponytail off, then I had to send the hair off to Pantene.

I have donated hair to Locks of Love, which may sound a little weird since my hair is white. But they were able to sell my hair and use the money. If you want to make sure your hair is used for a cancer patient, I just googled and found several web sites, including the Childhood Leukemia Foundation, Pantene Beautiful Lengths, and Wigs for Kids.

you can have the pony tail cut off and send it to locks of love, if you google it it has a form you fill out and address of where to send it. A Salon in Gilbert on cooper & baseline ( in the Khols shopping center) named David and Friends. the stylist Tina did mine- then gave me a cute style.
