Dollhouse for Boys
I have a three-year-old son who really likes playing with dollhouses. I would like to get him one for Christmas but I would rather not get something frilly and pink - not that there's anything wrong with that. Can anyone suggest a dollhouse that is good for boys that isn't too "girly."

I think Melissa and Doug makes a wooden (no color) small dollhouse. My friend bought a small wooden dollhouse for her sons and they love it. Sometimes it's filled with GI Joe's, sometimes with teh family it came with.

I always got my boys small tents to put up in the house. It gives them a great place to play and hide.

Are you the one who posted this a few months ago and your husband was against it?
I still think that trying to find one online or a Mom and Pop toy store would be your best bet. If I would've thought of this earlier, I would've suggested going to your local school and ask the shop teacher to have this as a project for the students.
Good luck

Hi, I have been meaning to answer this for a while because my son likes the dool house that is in our local library so I felt I had to help. Here is one I saw on Amazon that looked good and got great reviews. Happy holidays!

J.,
Just don't let someone talk you out of it.
Try Nova naturals. Or if you can find something through Waldorf-education, you'll have to do a search.
There is a plain wood (no decoration at all) house in our classroom, and my son LOVES IT!
Good luck,
M.

Melissa and Doug used to make a plain wooden folding doll house but I think they changed it to pink for some stupid reason. I did not want a pink doll house for my daughter so we got her Plan Toys Doll House. Playmobil makes a take Along house also.

"Not that there is anything wrong with that" LOL! I would try a castle or something like the Walton's house (yes, they still have it out!) etc. they are just house looking not overly frilly. NOTHING wrong with boys playing house - they will make good Father's one day with all the practice - something we really need!

Hi J.,
Plan toys has some very nice, gender neutral doll houses and accessories. I haven't splurged on it yet, because it is pricey.
I also saw one in the land of nod catelog (they have a website too.)
I keep looking for a less expensive one for my 3 year old son, but they more affordable ones seem to be the 'pink and frilly' sort.
Good luck!

Hi J., I purchased a fire house for my 4 year old son that is similar to a girls dollhouse except for boys. I purchased it at Costco about a month. It is hard to find ones for the boys. Have you thought about the bat cave or a castle? We have both and my son really enjoys them.
Good Luck!
S.
