Dogs Owners
Where do you take your dogs for their shots/ etc? I have been taking my dogs to Barnafield at Pet Smart but sometimes I find they are a little too expensive if you have to make surgery, xreys, etc. Any information will be greatlly appreciated

It's been 2 years since my dog passed away, but we used to use Gwinnett Animal Clinic in downtown Lawrenceville, and they were very reasonable to compared to others.

I take my dogs to SANTA on Franklin Rd. in Marietta (right off of 75). The acronym stands for Spay and Neuter Team of Atlanta. They are a non-profit organization that I stumbled upon a few years ago, and now I take my dogs there for everything (and rarely use my local vet anymore). I believe the website is www.spay-neuterteam.com - and they do just about everything a private vet does at much cheaper prices.

I work at Pet Vet in Cumming. They are a low cost spay/neuter clinic, we also do vaccines and minor sicknesses and illness. The prices are VERY resonable. We even have vets refer their clients to us due to our low cost. The doctors are wonderful, Dr. Land has been practicing for over 20 years and has spayed over 55,000 animals. She was even nominated for a Hero of the year award by animal planet.

What I recommend to my clients is to call around for pricing on some routine procedures such as... DHLPP Boosters, Rabies (does the vet only offer a 1 yr or do they offer a 3 yr.. a 3 yr is a better value), How much to neuter a 50 pound male dog, heartworm testing. By calling and getting pricing on these basic procedures you will get an idea about their overall pricing. Overall, a large & small animal vets (one that does horses and cows as well as dogs & cats) tend to be much, much less expensive and often provide the simplest care first (rest the dog) rather than shooting the dog full of steriods or ordering a CAT scan.

We use Dr Gross at Caremore Animal Clinic off of Furys Ferry Road for general checkups and emergency visits and treatment of our other pets (lizards, turtles, birds and guinea pigs). His office visits have remained very reasonable and he and the staff have a wonderful love of animals.
For annual shots we use CSRA Lifesavers in North Augusta. Shots for our lab mix were $35 last year which included the 3 year Rabies, distemper, and kennel cough. CSRA lifesavers has a website that lists prices.

I take my dog to Central Animal Hospital located on Bull Street near Victory Dr. They are excellent! They are slightly cheaper than Banfield (well, they were a few years ago when I switched), although most vets charge more than we'd like.

I take my dogs to Banfield as well, but I have them enrolled in the Optimum Wellness plan which covers a lot of expenses. It is well worth having because you never know when you might need to take your dog in to be seen. It's kind of like dog insurance and even though I really can't afford the monthly payment, the coverage and peace of mind is well worth it.
