I had a similar problem when my mother visited with her dog! I have one of those small carpet cleaners and used that with Basic G from Shaklee. It is a safe nontoxic germicide and deoderizes.
If you are interested in it, let me know and I will send you my website.

Pet urine takes 5-7 years to completely dissipate on its own. Chem-Dry has a product called Pet Urine Removal Treatment (PURT) that breaks down the urine in 48-72 hours. It is absolutely an amazing product. It does have to be applied by a Chem-Dry technician and it is a spot treatment so you need to know exactly where the urine is -- when you smell/see urine from the top of the carpet it is usually a lot larger spot in the pad and even in the subfloor. It could also be in the tack strip or the walls if near a corner. You can go to http://www.co2cleaners.com/cornerstone/purt.php or call my office at ###-###-#### to learn more. We will be happy to send out a technician to give you a free pet urine evaluation where our technician will bring out his black light and it will show exactly where the pet urine is and then it can be treated. You can also email me at ____@____.com for more information! We would love to help you! Mention Mamasource and receive a 25% discount on your PURT service!

Go to any pet store and buy Nature's Miracle! Our dog did the same thing when we bought our house. I finally bought this stuff and it works great! It even worked for set-in stains! And, if for some reason it doesn't work for you, they guarantee your money back...I love this product!!!

I recommend some stuff you buy online called (no, I'm not kidding) Anti-Icky Poo http://www.antiickypoo.com/ . It's a lot stronger than Nature's Miracle. I have used it to handle my cat's marking, and it's worked well. If you wanted to try something cheaper, I've had a lot of luck with Oxyclean, as well. No matter what anyone says, vinegar is not a good idea - it adds to the ammonia.

If you have tried Nature's Miracle and it is not working for you, make sure you let it sit for a while after you apply it. It needs time for the enzymes to break down the urine odor. I learned this from past experience!

Also, is it possible that there is another spot you may have missed? We have found that using a black light in a dark room will help identify any areas we didn't originally see. Just wave it around near the carpet and the pee spots will glow.

Oxyclean and a sham wow. Mix the oxyclean with water according to directions and poor it on the carpet so it gets down to the pad. Put the sham wow over it and step on it, so it soaks the stuff up from the pad. I have a sheltie that loves my office when it rains, this is how I keep the smell out of my office. You might have to treat the area a couple of times. Make sure you use gloves....

I use ZeroOdor - it's only available online right now. I own a pet care business and do a lot of animal rescue. It was formulated for skunk and cat urine and I have been happy with it.

Nature's Miracle is what I used when my dog got skunked. I also used Massengill Vinegar & Water douche mixed with peroxide (got that suggestion online--have a BIG dog and the lady in line ahead of me asked if I had a yeast infection when the saw the 8 twin boxes of Massengill in my cart! LOL)

I use vinegar and baking soda on urine stains. Dampen the spot (if it's carpet or furniture) and rub in a good amount of baking soda, let it sit for a few minutes (it will smell worse at this point). Then pour on some vinegar. It reacts and poof, the smell is gone. I have tried it on dog urine, but works fine on toddler leakage. Worth a shot.

I saw this on the show, "10 Things I Hate About Me" (style channel). The lady had a animal that peed in her house.

Spray the area with mint scented alcohol. I'm pretty sure I've seen this in the stores. Just put it in a spray bottle.

Go to Home Depot and get Bissell Pet and Stain and odor. It is a little less expensive there then Pet Smart. I pour it on and it disappears but I use a paper towel or soft cloth to wipe it up, then use a steam machine. But that stuff is great.I have had them tell the me, Nature stuff is better but I think not. I have light grey carpets and I used different things for stains in one of my other homes and when we left there were little yellow spots from bleaching the carpet. Vinegar is one of the worst, it actually will attract your dog back to the spot because urine has a lot in it. I have a Shih Tze and she has done her stuff everywhere as even before she was trained and still now she will if we do not let her out. I can see it because the carpets are almost white.I have a Home Day Care and I take the dirty diapers right to the garbage in the garage and never leave them in my house. I have had customers tell me it does not smell like dog or boop so that is great. I have one customer seems every time she comes one of the kids has just pooped her diaper and she can smell it but taken care of right away. She tells me too my house smells good. But one time I grabbed the wrong squirt bottle and used bleach instead of doggy stain remover and now I need a replacement of carpet there. Good luck it works. G. W

Baking soda. Let it sit for as long as possible before vacuuming. We had a dog with a brain tumor start peeing randomly. This was the only thing that worked. It happened a couple of weeks ago and that is the only thing that brought any sort of relief to our nose. It has also stopped our other dog from using the carpet as his "toilet". We still plan on replacing the carpet because it's stained now but it will get us through until it can be done. We put an entire box on a section that was about 3' x 3' and let it sit for about 15 hours. We did a second dose of about 1/2 that for 8 hours.

Been there!! Although there are products you can try form the pet store, I would recommend calling a Professional Cleaners. I saw Erika from Chem-Dry posted something to your post - I would HIGHLY recommend her company. My puppy decided that it was much warmer pee-ing in my house and it smelled AWFUL. I tried some of the over the counter stuff and it masked the smell for a day or 2, but it always came back - especially on warn, muggy days!!

Cornerstone came out and brought their Black Light to find all my "problem" areas and did their PURT treatment - I was soooo happy to be able to sit on the floor again without smelling pee!!

I cannot recommend them enough - they are polite, prompt and do a great job!! Their number is ###-###-####!!

There is a new product out there called Ordor Ban that might be what would work. There is a process to getting rid of the urine smell. First you have to put enough product to make it damp than put a sandwich bag or plastic bag over the spot and put something heavy to hold down the plas tic and let that sit for 3 days at least this lets the order eating bacteria to really work on the problem. Than use a clean towel to blot up any dampness.

I know it's going to sound like a big pain but is it on carpet? You probably need to pull the carpet up and clean the pad underneath (hopefully it's not in the middle of the room!). Also if you try the Nature's Miracle again, saturate it REALLY well, let it sit for a while, as in at least 10 minutes if not more. And then use a shop vac to suck up the excess moisture instead of towels. Then let it dry naturally since the enzymes are what help remove the odor. Once it's dry then try baking soda as an extra deodorizer.

To rid the house of urine smell you will need some kind of enzymes. What you are smelling is the waste products of the bacteria and other microorganisms that are eating away at the urine. Their waste is mostly made up of ammonia, hence the bad, potent smell. Left to itself urine will break down over a period of years. Using enzymes will speed up nature and do it much faster.

You didn't mention what type of floor your dog marked, but avoid vinegar or anything acidic on carpet. Most carpet is dyed with acid dyes so using vinegar can sometimes set in stains.

Every urine case is different, so the only way to guarantee complete odor removal would be to remove or clean everything that the urine contaminated. In the carpet world that means tac-strip and carpet pad is replaced, your sub-floor is sealed, and your carpet gets cleaned on both sides. A very involved process that can be fairly pricey.

Using enzymes will be cheaper and easier, but you do need to get the enzymes in contact with everything that is contaminated (on carpet a small spot on top can be 4-6 times larger underneath. It is also important to know that every enzyme product is different and just because one product doesn't work, doesn't mean another won't (most enzyme products only contain 6-8 different enzymes, before they start to destroy one another).

At Zerorez our enzyme product contains literally thousands of pro-biotic enzymes (meaning they promote oxygen producing, healthy bacteria). There really isn't a smell that it can't eliminate quickly, effectively, and safely. You can visit us online at: http://www.zerorezdallas.com

If you are interested in just purchasing some of our enzymes send me a message and I'm sure we can work something out to get you some of our enzymes.

Nature's Miracle
You should be able to find it at any pet store, but Pet Smart has it for sure! I moved into a house with my kids and the previous owners left their cat in one of the bedrooms while they were moving out and it had urinated everywhere! This all happened after the contracts were signed so I had no carpet allowance! Nature's Miracle will take the smell away. It took more than one application, but I bought the large bottle and followed the directions. I have never been able to get cat urine smell out until now. If it works on cat urine it will work on dog too!
My girls each have a dog for their dog agility sport and in puppy days we used Nature's Miracle for their accidents.
We love it.
