Dog Training
I was wondering if anybody knew of a place around here that was like a "boot camp" for dogs. We have a great dog that needs a quite a bit of training (he is a very excited 75 lb. dog). We thought if we could find a good camp for him, we would know he is in a safe place while we board him and they can help us train him. Thanks!

Yep, I know just the one. I haven't used them personally, but they have some great testimonials. Here's the site: http://www.k-9basic.com/index.html. I would also recommend watching the dog whisperer on National Geographic channel or buying his dvd's at http://www.dogpsychologycenter.com/. He's amazing! Good luck with your pooch.

A friend of mine has a business, Redeeming Dogs. Although I haven't worked with him personally, I really like his approach and get the feeling he really has an incredible gift...kinda like The Dog Whisperer. Check out his Web site: http://www.redeemingdogs.com/
Good luck!!

We use Hilton and we LOVE him. I have two friends who also use him and the three of us couldn't be happier. He has several options for training. He does do boarding for a week to do basic training. If you call them, let them know Neesie's mom referred you!

We took our two rescue dogs to Pet Perfect Academy in Carrollton. They teach you to train your dog. The difference is amazing after even the first session. Their website is petperfect.com.

The thing about dog training is that if you don't learn the commands and use the same training at home, it won't stick. Dogs need to know you're the boss and they need consistent rules just like kids. I participated in training classes with my dogs and it really worked. Petsmart has a really good program. Check that out. I've heard the bootcamps are a waste of money.

We took both our 75 lb labs to MelloDee Middleton at GermelHaus She has trained search and rescue dogs. She is wonderful. Our 'girls' love her. She is in Princeton which is just past Allen, but it only takes 45 mins from Lewisville. She keeps the dogs for training for 2 weeks. When we went 3 years ago it was $600 for the 2 weeks. It sounds like a lot, but it was sooo worth it. If our dogs are across the park from us we can call out down or just give them the hand signal for down and they hit the ground and stay there until we come and get them. You have to see it to believe it. Everyone we meet at the park is always so impressed with the behaviour of our labs. She also boards for half the price of the vets and has a lot of land so the dogs are not stuck in crates the whole time. Our labs come back and sleep for a week after being with MelloDee for just a weekend! Her website is www.germelhaus.com
Good luck
