Dog Smelling Couch

My parents just gave us their old couches, which they have had for 10 years or so. They have always had dogs, so the couches still smell like them. Does anyone have any tips on making them smell fresher?

What can I do next?

Thanks for everyones help! I tried the vinegar and it worked like a champ :)

Maybe if the cushions unzip you could wash them on gentle cycle. also get a foam cleaner and scrub lightly all over. That should do the trick if you still can smell it try neutral odor or in pet supplies look up something that might work that you cnn put on everyday.

I know of a product called sol-u-mel. It is an all natural product and can alieviate almost any smell, every that I've tried. The products by this company are so potent because of the citrus and vinigar agents in them. You can find these products and many more at melaleuca.com. It can be a little expensive if you're not a perfered customer. However I can help you become one. Check out the site and see what you like then respond to this email if you want to learn more. The products are great but the best part is how healthy it is for you, your family and your pets!

I would suggest going to the pet store and purchasing a bottle of Natures Miracle. It is an Enzyme breaker made to remove even nasty odors such as urin, feces, and vomit. Follow the directions on the bottle and you should be fine. I will warn you that the couch will have to dry for about a day before you can sit on it again, but the beautiful thing about Natures Miracle is that it leaves no residue and it is COMPLETELY non -toxic to pets and kids.

We have used the Nature's Miracle as well and it does work but can sometimes change the color of the fabric. I always use good old fashion borax on the two areas that our 60lb. dog sleeps on. These are both carpeted and really can hold odor. Borax is totally safe and is a dry way to get rid of orders. You sprinkle the powder liberally on the surface of the couch and let it set for a good 1/2 an hour. Then vacuum off really well.

Have you tried Febreeze?

Hi A.,

Have you thought about having the couches professionally cleaned? I had my old ones done and it didn't cost me a whole lot. If you don't want to go that route, I've used Febreeze fabric spray for multiple odors and it works wonders!

I would first clean the couches either professionally or if you have one with your own cleaner. I have a Little Green Machine that is for cleaning carpets and upholstery. They make special cleaner that is supposed to help with pet smells. After cleaning them, there are three different products you can try which can help further remove the smell. Febreeze is one which has already been suggested. There is a product that they sell at Sam's Club (and other places, I'm sure) called OdoBan. It works well, also. Additionally, Renuzit makes a product called Odor Neutralizer which comes in different scents. It works well, also.

Good luck.

FEEBREEZE Does the magic trick! Or getting a more expensive cleaning requires a crew of professionals. Shop around for the best price. But FEEBREEZE is the least expensive and best!
