I'm preparing to get a lawn service this Spring and am considering getting Trugreen or a similar service but the chemical aspect of what they do makes me nervous. Should I be worried? And what's the best alternative?

What can I do next?

Considering the huge increase in pesticide and herbicide use and the huge increase in autism and other processing disorders plus learning disabilities I believe there is a correlation.

when we first moved here i spread weed-and-feed. nothing on the bag indicated any sort of issue, and i was stupid.
but after speaking to someone smarter, i called scott's and asked them how long i should keep the horses off the grass after using it.
'just two years' she chirped.
i poisoned my lawn and pasture. and the only reason i knew about it was because i called them.
every time i see one of those commercials that blaps about a 'healthy green lawn with NO ICKY DISGUSTING DANDELIONS' and shows puppies and babies rolling around on the toxic green carpet i want to puke.
why not plant a good tough hardy grass, and just dig up any noxious weeds like thistles?
for me it's well worth the extra work.

Yes. That's why we dont use a service.
I think we're all getting our RDA of Round Up in the foods we eat. 😁

There are lawn services which use natural or organic pest control. When I lived in the DC area (years ago now) I hired such a company. It's not as effective as the heavy duty stuff, but also not as dangerous to people, animals, and our water supply. Research well in your area.

It's pretty simple - if the lawn treatment requires a sign to tell folks to stay off the treated lawn for their own health, it's nothing you want on the grass your children and pets will be playing on. Also, for the sake of the bees and other essential pollinators, avoid neonicitinoid pesticides.

So we had TruGreen a few years ago when our sod was new and the yard looked awesome - they ruined it completely. We have been unable to bring it back to what it was before they ruined it. I would never recommend them to anyone. Their customer service is also horrible.

We treat our yard ourselves. We know exactly what we use. Yes, we use chemicals. We have no isssues with bugs either.

My preference is to do it ourselves because you really don't know what the changes are putting on your yard.. You only know what they tell you they are putting on your yard.

I see various companies run around a neighbors yard in 5 minutes and move on to next door. The neighbors have no clue what they are really doing.

You can easily find something wrong with anything you attempt to use or eat.

I think of balance... I refuse to live my life filled with worry.

say no to trugreen. If you dont want to treat yourselves personally ask neighbors with good yards what they use.
