Does Getting a Vasectomy Increase Mens' Chances of Getting Prostate Cancer?

Hi Moms,

I want my husband to get a vasectomy, but I heard that it can increase a man's chance of getting prostate cancer. Do any of you know if this is true? Thanks!

What can I do next?

According to the National Cancer Institute and studies done by them and others over the past several decades; no. ((technically, science rarely uses the words no or yes. No = weak, Yes = strong... because nothing is true in every case. For example the link between smoking and lung cancer is strong... because smoking doesn't cause lung cancer in all cases. So whenever a study shows a link is "weak" take that to mean no, or "strong" take that to mean "yes")).

HOWEVER studies are ongoing looking at how vasectomies make EXISTING testicular cancer develop faster or slower... those results aren't out yet, but research in stage is suggesting no link.

Here's a quick link on a summary of the most relavent studies over the past couple decades and their findings.

My husband had been talking about getting one, but I know that time will take care of my ability to get pregnant on it's own and don't want any permanent doors closed until then. There are actually other problems associated with getting a vasectomy, it is such a common "simple" procedure that these problems are rarely discussed by the doctor and men and their partners don't even know to ask. Even when they do ask, it is often brushed aside as minute. I found this website and let me tell you it changed my husband's mind immediately! Check it out http://www.dontfixit.org/ The testimony of men who have post-vasectomy problems is heart-breaking.

The risk of heart attacks is greater.
Cancer can happen to anyone. Our world is so unclean. IF our government were serious about public health it would clean up the water and ban pesticides. Pesticides and herbicides cause fatty tissue cancers (breast, liver, pancreas, ovarian, sarcomas of the fatty tissue). Only the first one has a decent cure rate the last one is incurable under all circumstances except homeopathic plantain.
