Does Anyone Know Anything About the Measles Case in Hennepin Co?

Hi, Does anyone know anything about the measles case in Hennepin Co. Where the girl was seen, where she lives etc. My daughter hasn't been vaccinated yet due to her seizures and I'm concerned. I can't seem to find much information about it.

What can I do next?

Because it is isolated, the information probably hasn't been widely distributed in the media yet. While I second checking with the doctor, they might not even know yet. I'd recommend contacting the Minnesota Department of Health directly for the information. All outbreak cases must be filed there. One place to start might be their Communications/Public Relations department, since this is where all information that is funneled through the media comes from. At the very least, they'd be able to direct you to where you can find the information. You could also try checking the Health Department's website.

Talk to your ped to see what the risk factors are with your daughter. I haven't heard any details either. Just heard a quick clip about it.

If you were in contact or shared a medical clinic, you would have been contacted by the Dept of Health. They will contact everyone who may have been in contact with the child, but not release specifics due to confidentiality.

I was happy you posted this as after you did, I went to another board I am on and found out this.....

The little girl was 10 months old. It is the first case since 2001 that has NOT been linked to foreign travel. Seen 8/7/08.

Below are the 2 most detailed paragraphs I can find. You can talk to your dr. to see if he has any more information.

The child had onset of fever on July 29 and was seen in an emergency department. The child was seen again on August 2 and 3 in two different clinics. These three facilities have been notified and health officials are in the process of identifying and contacting patients and health care providers who were present at the same time as the child.

Additionally, the child was in the community while infectious. Health officials have asked doctors and health care workers to be alert for measles symptoms and possible measles cases for the next 2-3 weeks.
