Sorry, no advice. I can say that this too shall pass. My girls were like this and now they are 18 and 13 years old. I must say though they are still both night owls.

Our son was like that.
Guess while he was inside he slept all day while I was moving around and then while I slept he'd be awake and kicking up a storm (my husband felt him all the time - he actually kicked Hubby out of the bed once) - I was so tired I just slept through it all.
They do eventually get their days and nights straightened out but it can take awhile.
In the meantime, sleep when when she sleeps.
It's hard during the day but if you're tired enough you can do it.

My first was like this. It's a phase and it will pass.

My advice to you is to sleep during the day when she does. Things will turn around soon.

If she is easily aroused in the night - could she be chilled? My first slept much better when he was swaddled and then a sleep sack. We had an old drafty house that would cool down at night even with the heat on - and he'd stir.

Best advice I ever got was to just keep living like you do - and baby will adapt to you. So don't tip toe around during the day to allow her to sleep. Go out and about, do your errands, have people over - noise. But when she naps, you nap. Otherwise you'll be zonked.

Good luck :) It really will pass.

You need to make sure that there is noise going on in the house during the day. If you are trying to be quiet during the day for her, that's not helping your cause.

Try to keep her up longer during the day, messing with her clothes, moving her around, that kind of thing.

Talk to your ped for suggestions as well.

Get a background noise machine for the night so those little noises wont startle the baby. A fan would work. Just turn the fan around if you don't want it on you. Play with her and make noise during the day like another poster said. Your in for a long motherhood if you think little ones suppose to sleep and stay awake at the appropriate times.

Spend as much time outdoors during daylight hours as possible, Natural light and activity should help.

Congratulations on your baby! I am guessing you are a new mom, since you ask this question. It is completely normal for your 5 week old to have her days and nights mixed up. All babies do that at first, and some babies take longer than others to sleep at night. Get used to it, because it could take a couple months until she sleeps during the night.

Give her time! She's only 5 weeks old. Patience. It will happen.

It's tough but it will pass. I recall with my oldest, our "day" pretty much started at 11:30 pm when David Letterman used to come on. This was way back in 1994, so I don't recall if anything I tried worked or how long it lasted, but eventually it did get better.

My firstborn was like this, and it did sort itself out. In the meantime, as much exposure to natural light as possible during the day. I never found a quick fix, but after a few months she did settle into a more diurnal pattern (Thank God!). So grab naps when you can (sleep is more important than a clean floor) and keep telling yourself, "This is a normal stage of development and it will pass..." as you yawn and reach for that second cup of coffee. BTW, if you are nursing and you do drink coffee (or anything else with caffeine - tea, sodas, etc.), time it VERY carefully - morning only, as little as you can get by with, as far from the next feeding as possible. A good friend of mine couldn't understand why her baby wouldn't sleep. She told me about it as she was drinking her 4 p.m. double shot latte. In her sleep-deprived state, it simply hadn't occurred to her that she was contributing to the problem.
