Does Anyone Have Experience for Treating Molluscum Contaclosum?
My 2 year old little boy has been to the dermatologist for little bumps that he has been getting. The dermatologist and pediatrician labeled it Molluscum Contaclosum (they say it runs in the wart family). He has had a few topical treatments from the dermatologist. The last couple of weeks, the red bumps have really spread and become itchy for my little guy. Does anyone have experience with this and what did you do to treat? Not sure the treatment he is getting now is helping at this point.

My 6 year old son has something similar but more chronic, it has been about 3 years. I am finally going to have him tested for Celiac Disease. He also has sensitivity to dairy and has severe stomache cramping and pain. We have tried lots of topical treatments which will lessen the bumps but they never go away. If it is truly Molluscum, then it should go away completely after vigilant topical treatment for several months. Hang in there, I know it is trying. I hope he gets relief!

Hi C.,
I had this as a young adult (had to do with my boyfriend not being very vigilent with cleaning his wetsuit - eww!) Anyway, I had to get the warts frozen off. I'm not sure if they would consider that for a little one but if they are getting worse and the cream isn't helping it might be an option. Good luck!

Hi C., My son had that when he was about 2-2 1/2. We went to a dermatoligist also and had to put a topical treatment. The dermatoligist prescribed a maximum wort remover and a cream called Tretinoin, which is for retin-A. We applied it on his skin before bedtime. It worked and the worts went away and have not come back.
I hope this helps and good luck to you & your son. I hope it gets better soon.

my oldest daughter and all of her cousins on her fathers side had this when they were young. (all had this when they were under 3 years old) We used the topical cream that basically burned them off. It did take a few months but now none of the kids have them and there are no scars. It's really harmless, just annoying for the parents and the appearance.

I am fighting the same thing with my 3 year old daughter. We have gone twice and had them "burn" them off, both times they came back. The last time she gave us topical treatment and as long as we use it every day it goes away.

My daughter had this condition when she was two. The dermatologist scraped them with some kind of instrument and after a few days of redness they started to heal up. The process was slightly painful but fast and the molluscum have never returned.

Per our pediatric dermatologist, do not put neosporin on it! Wash with regular gentle soap and water and keep the skin lotioned. My daughter had one bump that was diagnosed Molluscum. The pediatric dermatologist gave us two topicals to put on it twice a day. The first was Clindagel, which is clear. The second was Cloderm, which was white. Also, she put my daughter on Sulfameth-Trimeth, genertic for Bactrim, and oral medication since it had become infected.
If you look up the Molluscum Contaclosum on the internet, it can freak you out. They are harmless and almost everyone has been infected at some point in their life. The can take 12 weeks or so to clear up. If you are concerned, I recommend that you go back to your pediatrician or dermatologist.
