Hi there! We are taking a family vacation to San Diego next week. I went to college there and lived there for a few years after, so I know the area, know what we want to do and all of that. However, I have not been to Seaworld or the Zoo with a little one and I am wondering if there are any tips or info that I should know.

For example, my sister-in-law went to Disneyland and found the strollers at the park were much easier to use than her travel stroller. That being, something she would not have known without going there. Obviously we are going to bring lots of snacks, change of clothes, new toys- the usual stuff when traveling. Just wondering if you have any great insight specific to those two places? Also, if you know of anything that your child around 19 months or so thoroughly enjoyed in the area, let me know. Thanks so much!

I was just at Sea World last week with my 4 year old and 10month old. Go on the Sea World website and you can reserve stroller, we ordered lunch for the 1:30 shamu show and had great reserved seats and ate lunch while watching the show, we bought are parking ticket and printed it out, and found so much info to get some tips. I brought a change of clothes because at Sesame Street play area there is a water spot that squirts water and of course the 4 year old wanted to join. Bring snacks to hold them over till the next meal. Bought the souvenir cup and refilled for half the price all day. There is even a price where you pay one time for kids and/or adults and eat all day at any of the many restaurants they have. The pass can be used at any restaurant just show them the pass and you can eat breakfast in one place then lunch at another and dinner in another all with this one time paid eatery pass. You buy the eating pass inside the park when you first walk in. My 10 month old enjoyed Sea World buy seeing and touching the new animals. Take advantage of the map. Just walk around and enjoy. To see the fireworks the best place is to go to Elmo's 4D theatre. They set off the fireworks off the water. Bottom line take also advantage of the Sea World website. Good luck. I had the best experience with my sons.

I love san diego! I do have one tip for you. Rent a stroller at the park.... at least for sea world. I was looking into buying a double stroller on craigslist san diego. Someone posted an ad on there about someone stealing them from sea world! Diaper bag and all! How horrible is that? I've taken my bugaboo to the sd zoo when my daughter was 7 months old and we pretty much stayed close to the stroller the whole time because she wasnt walking yet. Have a great time!!!! I hear lego land is really fun too. I took my toddler to the aquarium there on a tues afternoon. It was 18 plus parking. But it was so empty! She got to hold sea slugs and starfish and the aquariums were beautiful! Im sure sea world is going to be really fun for you guys!

Hi J.,
We go to SD Zoo and Sea World all the time. My son is 6 now but we've been going since he was about a year old. I've never rented a stroller so I don't know if their strollers are any better. I have never had trouble with anyone trying to take my stroller. I bought a cheap umbrella stroller with a basket on the bottom for San Diego because my other stroller didn't fit in the car and that worked fine. I recommend going on line to see the layout of both parks so you can sort of make a plan of what you want to see. I also recommend getting there early to avoid the crowds.

The SD Zoo is lots of fun. It's a lot of walking though. You probably want to take your daughter on the tram ride around the park so she can see most of the animals then go to the petting zoo and some of the other animals that are close to the entrance. Just outside the zoo in Balboa Park is a carousel and train ride that the kids love. On the other side of the park they have Botanical Gardens, big fountains and a really cool "art colony" with lots of artists (Mad Art is my favorite.)

At Seaworld there are lots of things for little kids to see. You can usually just take the stroller through many of the inside exhibits where you can see different kids of fish and animals. My son loved all sorts of water animals but when we took him to the dolphin show he freaked out from the splashing. The Shamu show is the best but again lots of splashing so your daughter will either love it or freak out... you won't know until you get there. Definitely check out the Clydesdales Horses. They are so cool! And try to see the Beluga Whales back in the polar section.

Hope this helps! Have a fun trip.
