I also have PCOS and it took a while to conceive our first daughter. Once they finally diagnosed me, I was put on Metoformin and Femara. I conceived my daughter two months later. Fast forward to to two years later and the same thing did not work. I had a test done called HSG--it is done to see if there is any blockage in the fallopian tubes. My RE said that a lot of women do it every 3-4 years when trying to conceive to clean everything out. Even if you do not have any blockage, the dye used in the test opens up your fallopian tubes wider for about 3-4 cycles. I had the test done a few weeks ago and they found a partial blockage. We tried again to conceive and this time it worked. I just found out that I am pregnant a few days ago. Let me know if you have any more specific questions.

Do you ovulate? Have you tried metformin and/or clomid yet?

My mom and I both have PCOS. She conceived me and my sister with clomid. I actually just found out I'm pregnant this weekend, I was planning on starting clomid in June, but by some crazy fluke I ovulated around day 60-70 of this cycle and we somehow managed to time it right though we had no idea.

Good luck!

I had a long struggle to get pregnant with my now 20 month old and have been trying to get pregnant again for several months. My Reproductive Endocrinologist put me on Metformin, and I conceived while taking Follistim. I'm doing the Follistim injections again this time, and I'm just praying and hoping it works soon. If you need anything or want to just talk, I'm here. I know it's such a frustrating, heart-wrenching syndrome, and it has certainly helped me to talk to others. I also have utilized the support group site: pcosupport.org. They have good info and also have a Message Board you can read or post messages. Take care and best wishes!

I have PCOS and though I wasn't intending to get pregnant, this did the trick. My doctor had put on Metformin, a thyroid medication and compounded hormones to treat my PCOS. I think it was the perfect combination becasue after 15 years of never getting pregnant, surprise! I would talk to a doctor that will test your hormones and how your PCOS and has been effecting them. Good luck!!

S.,
I too have PCOS and was in your shoes before conceiving my 18 month old son. I would love to tell you the solution that you need but with every PCOSer the formula is different. We started our journey of conceiving in Dec. of 2005. I started by taking metformin with the hopes of having cycles. I took my temperature every morning and charted any signs of possible ovulation. Nothing was discovered except for the fact that no cycles were present. A year later I began taking 50 mg. of clomid with no success. We then did an HSG and found no blockage. Our next step was to go to a specialist. We were referred to PARINTS in Town & Country. This was an answered prayer. Becky met with us and we decided on a plan. My dosage of clomid was changed, ultra-sounds were done to monitor follicle growth, ovulation was triggered, and our son was conceived! On Nov. 20, 2007 we were blessed with our first son.
Since you are in the St. Louis area I would recommend contacting PARINTS or asking your doctor about it. The website is www.parints.com. Don't give up but don't think that it is just going to happen. PCOS is a medical condition and you have to work with your doctor to make sure all areas are taken care of. Good luck and God Bless. Please send me a personal message if you have any questions.

I have PCOS as well. Didn't know until my husband and I tried to conceive. I was put on Clomid and the Metformin, did all of this with no results. Finally we ended up seeing a fertility specialist. I had ovarian drilling done. And then about 4 months later we got pregnant with our son. We didn't have to do any of the treatments or surgery to have our second child. I know that this sounds like alot to do, but sometimes it takes some of us the longer road to get to what we want...I know that I felt that/this way, but I am so very glad that I did take the long way. Good luck to you. Any questions you can email me at ____@____.com C.

For me I didn't have as much trouble getting pregnant the second time, but I was ovulating better. Are you charting your cycles? Do you think you are ovulating at all? If you have PCOS, you may be a late ovulator. This means try around day 14 won't always work. I was ovulating about day 21-22. Try the metformin if you can tolerate it. Also get a good Pre-natal check-up to make sure there aren't other problem. Make sure you see a good OB that deals with PCOS patients. Otherwise pray, practice, and patience.
